Thank you for taking the time to support KPMG Student Recruitment by attending either a
recruitment event or activity.
The Student Recruitment team recruits over 1,500 graduates, apprentices, interns and work
experience students each year across all capabilities onto a variety of programmes. To do this
we need to attract the best and most diverse talent and look to ensure every candidate has a
positive experience of KPMG, regardless of their eventual outcome. To attract this talent we run
and attend hundreds of events nationwide each year including insight sessions, careers fairs
and skills sessions. In light of COVID-19, we’re running all events online for the foreseeable
future.
Having volunteers from across the business at our events is critical to maximising the
experience for attendees, giving them a more detailed insight into working at KPMG which is
what they all want to hear about! Volunteering also provides you with an opportunity to use and
develop your non-technical skills and build your network across KPMG.
In this pack we have provided you with information about the various Student programmes,
details of the application process candidates will go through and some key messages that we
know students are interested in hearing about.
Please do take the time to review the information in this pack before attending an event and if
you have any further questions, please contact your specific event organiser who will be able to
answer these for you. You will also be provided with specific event details, time code
information and what you are required to do on the day from your Student Recruitment contact.
For the most up to date information on our programmes, application process and further FAQs,
please visit kpmgcareers.co.uk
Thank you again for taking the time to support our events & activities.
Welcome to Student Recruitment

KPMG’s series of events are
being delivered remotely for
2021 due to government
restrictions in place to
combat the Covid-19
outbreak. Sessions rely on
the use of Microsoft Teams as
an online meeting platform.
For KPMG and students to
use Microsoft Teams safely,
all parties must adhere to this
code of conduct for their own
protection and safeguarding.
KPMG Code of Conduct for virtual events
KPMG will
— Deliver online sessions via Microsoft Teams using
their KPMG Microsoft Teams account;
— Ensure that all security protocols are followed,
including use of unique meeting link and waiting
room functions;
— Ensure that no one-to-one sessions are conducted
and that there is another facilitator online when
conducting sessions with minors (under 18s)
— Ensure that no recording of the meeting is made and
no images are taken without prior consent of
students;
— Disable private chat function between participants;
— Hold sessions in a suitable room in the house and
ensure there is nothing inappropriate in the
background;
— Introduce themselves and other staff members at
the start of the meeting;
— Dress in appropriate day clothes;
— Use professional and appropriate language;
— Ensure that there is nothing inappropriate on the
screen/internet pages/browser history if they share
their screen during online delivery;
— End the session if there are any concerns regarding
student engagement or the security of the meeting
and report this to relevant internal teams.
Students will
— Update their parents and carers regarding the online
delivery of KPMG events this year and the remote
skills sessions delivered via Microsoft Teams (under
18s only)
— Ensure that no recording of the meeting is made, and
no images are taken;
— Dress in appropriate day clothes;
— Attend the session from a suitable room in their
house;
— Tell the KPMG host (by chat function or email) if they
want to end the session because they do not feel
safe or feel ill;
— Contact the KPMG host if they hear or see anything
upsetting or inappropriate during the session;
— Have their microphone muted when joining the
session. Students will
be able to unmute
themselves to ask
questions during the
Q&A session, if applicable.

During events we get asked a range of questions, so please take the time to reflect on your
experiences and KPMG journey. Please ensure you’re adhering to the below points:
Do talk about:
— Our benefits such as our wellbeing services, Babylon etc.
— Free lunch allowance (when back in the office!)
— Day off on your birthday
— The Academy
— Volunteering opportunities
Don’t talk about:
— Specifics of any KPMG press coverage. If related to Audit, state that we are disappointed if we have fallen
short of regulatory expectations and that we are working with the Regulator to ensure lessons learned.
— Promising secondment opportunities within Audit – these are only available post qualification, and reiterate
that Audit is a great place to continue your career post qualification.
— Bonus arrangements in place – reference other rewards
— Salary details – these are competitive and will be confirmed once securing an offer
To help prepare for the event:
— Take the time to read through this guide; have a look at our careers page and please pick up any further
questions with the specific event organiser who will be able to answer these
— Be prepared to ask open questions! This will help to tailor the conversation and ensure those we speak to
get all the information they require.
— Reflect on your journey at KPMG – what advice would you give to students, what made you want to join
KPMG, what skills have you developed, key achievements etc.

Graduate and Undergraduate
Programmes
Stage 1: Online application
This is the candidate’s chance to tell us about their
academic background and any work experience they
have undertaken. This should take about 30 minutes
for them to complete and they won’t need to upload
a CV.
Stage 2: Transforming Small Businesses
(online assessment)
After submitting the application form, they will
automatically be invited to our first online
assessment, Transforming Small Businesses. This
assessment features a range of material relating to
three fictional small businesses, each with their own
business challenges.
Throughout the assessment, candidates will be
asked how they might respond to certain scenarios
by ranking what they’ll likely do, say or feel. They will
also be asked to analyse some information and
provide responses. They will need a pen, paper and
calculator (a phone calculator will be sufficient).
The assessment is untimed, we suggest that
candidates allow 90 minutes for completion, and we
recommend that they complete it within one sitting.
They will need to complete the assessment within
five calendar days from the date of their invitation.
Once they have completed the assessment,
candidates will receive a personalised feedback
report based on the KPMG strengths assessed.
Stage 3: Delivering Outcomes (online
assessment)
If successful at Stage 2, candidates may be invited
to our next online assessment. This stage will
provide them with an insight into their chosen
business area as they are taken through a fictional
project, linked to one of the small businesses
introduced in the previous Transforming Small
Businesses assessment.
Throughout the assessment candidates will be
asked; how they might respond to certain scenarios
by ranking what they are likely to do, to record video
responses via their webcam, and provide written
responses to information provided.
This assessment is untimed, but we suggest that
candidates allow 60 minutes to complete it and that
they do so in one sitting. They will need to complete
the assessment within three calendar days from the
date of their invitation.
Stage 4: Critical Thinker (online assessment)
If successful at Stage 3, candidates may be
invited to re-sit their Critical Thinker
assessment.
This will be conducted virtually and facilitated
by a member of the Student Recruitment team.
This assessment will take 30 minutes to
complete.
Stage 5: Virtual Launch Pad (KPMG
Experience & Assessment Day)
Due to Covid-19 we have moved to a fully virtual
assessment process using Microsoft TEAMS
If candidates are successful at Stage 4, they may be
invited to attend a Virtual Launch Pad. This is the
final stage of the recruitment process.
Virtual Launch Pad will combine assessment with
the opportunity for them to learn more about the
fantastic career opportunities available at KPMG. We
will be looking for them to demonstrate the
strengths that will give us the confidence that they
will be successful at KPMG.
The assessed activities will be conducted virtually.
Candidates will also have the opportunity to meet
lots of our people virtually, including those within the
area you have applied to, from Partners to Graduate
Trainees.
If successful, candidates will have their job offer
within 2 working days!
If unsuccessful, candidates will be offered the option
to request feedback
Please note, the application process may vary for a
small number of Graduate and Undergraduate
routes.

Undergraduate and Graduate programmes.

form.

standard.
— Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; evidence of this will be
obtained throughout the selection process.
— International students wishing to apply to their home country should apply
direct through www.kpmg.com.
— We have a dedicated page for International students on our careers site,
so direct students accordingly
International students Application dates
— Candidates are only able to apply for one programme in one location each

to the opening date as possible – we do not have a closing date
for applications – we close once we have sufficient applications to fill our
roles
— Applications for Graduate and Vacation programmes typically open in July
and Apprenticeships in October.

KPMG has a full-time
Professional Qualifications and
Accreditations team – dedicated
to giving each associate the best
chance of passing exams first
time. There are a range of
professional qualifications that
are aligned to the programmes
candidates can apply for.
Our programmes are underpinned by
an online portal so they can access
technical content and learning
activities, share information and
contact tutors for all the support they
need at the click
of a button.
When applying for programmes with
ACA qualifications, they will have the
option to complete either an:
— Intensive training programme or
— Empowered training programme
Both programmes take three years to
complete, they just offer different
routes to achieving success.
The routes available depend on which
office applicants are applying to.
Training and development
Empowered
— Three year programme.
— All 15 exams split up over the three years.
— A blend of classroom and online learning
— Gain work experience/client exposure from the
beginning of the programme.
Intensive
— Three year programme.
— First year of the programme spent completing
14 exams/studying with our training provider.
— Second and third year spent gaining work
experience and completing the final exam (the
case study) in the final year.
The Academy
— Access to communities supporting each individuals learning
and experiences to build their skills and is there to excite,
engage, energise and build a sense of community for each
new cohort at KPMG, through learning and experience.
— It will help shape individuals and guide their transition from
student to professional.
— It will help them build networks and communities – not just
for today but for their career ahead.
Our aim is for The Academy to give trainees the best possible
start to their career, build the career they want and enable bright
minds to thrive at KPMG.
