2B R O U G H T T O Y O U B YSUNDAY 14 AUGUST 2022
WELCOME FROM THE CLASSICS FOUNDERWelcome to our fifth Noosa Classic! We are very excited about showcasing this stunning region to our loyal classic riders.
This year we are finally back to full national attendance, after a tumultuous period for everyone with floods, fires and a global pandemic ! We are just thankful to be back doing what we love doing and seeing you all enjoy what is just a remarkable destination.
The Noosa Hinterland is one we have long-admired here at Bicycling Australia. These events are not possible without our wonderful funding partners and we are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of Tourism & Events Queensland and Tourism Noosa. It’s encouraging to see regional areas such as Noosa receiving solid support from the state government. I also thank the Mayor of Noosa, Clare Stewart, and Noosa Tourism’s Melanie Anderson who have continued to back us. The amazing team at Noosa Council have warmly welcomed us all to the region and we will do all we can to make them proud.
Riders are absolutely everything to us and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support. Some of you are doing your first Classic in our series of events, and some are doing your 13th! We say thank you, and wish you all the best over the event weekend. Enjoy the experience and ride safely. Noosa has a deep and rich history, as do the surrounding villages of Cootharaba, Kin Kin, Cooran and Imbil. Your presence in these towns will be welcomed and we’re sure you’ll enjoy the amazing scenery around this stunning region.
We are dedicated to creating an environmentally sustainable and close to plastic free event as possible. Please respect the region and dispose of your rubbish in the bins provided at the rest stops or Event Village. And keep an eye out for our volunteer Waste Warriors, who will be around the Event Village helping sort your rubbish.
To our sponsors, thank you! Your support makes this event possible and we encourage all participants to meet our partners while enjoying the Event Village. These companies are leaders in their field and we are very proud to have them as part of the event. Staff and volunteers are critical to events of this magnitude and I thank all involved – a lot goes on behind the scenes to ensure your safety and a smooth ride.
On behalf of the Noosa Classic team I wish you all the best and I look forward to seeing you on the Start Line and at the post-event celebrations in the Event Village. Enjoy the ride, and ride hard but safe!
Sincerely, James Yaffa, Founder, The Classics

3SUNDAY 14 AUGUST 2022 B R O U G H T T O Y O U B Y
WELCOME FROM THE RIDE DIRECTORWelcome to the 5th annual Noosa Classic for 2022. We welcome back all interstate and international participants to the beautiful Noosa region, after running a Covid Safe QLD-only event in 2021. I am extremely happy to welcome you all here on the Start line for this year’s event and I hope that you thoroughly enjoy your weekend experience.
After challenging times, it is exciting to see sports events back on the cards for all to enjoy. While our event is held predominantly outside in the fresh air we ask that you practice Covid Safe precautions around the start line and while enjoying the post event atmosphere at the Event Village, practice social distancing and use the sanitizing stations provided around the event regularly.
This year we have 3 Fondo events to choose from – the 160km Maxi, 120km Challenge and the 65km Rouleurs courses. Each course provides a scenic route, a tough climb (or two) and showcases the best that the Noosa Hinterland has to offer!
This guide will give you all the details you need for the event, course warnings for each course, how to prepare and what to bring on the day. If you then have any further questions before the event, please don’t hesitate to flick us an email at [email protected]. Otherwise, come ready to enjoy your supported, not-so-average Sunday ride around the unforgettable, picturesque, Noosa Hinterland roads.
Always keep safety at the forefront of your mind when out riding – the roads are still open to traffic. Shout out a “hi” to other riders on course and let them know your intent to pass by saying “rider right” to ensure safety on our roads. Remember that this Gran Fondo event is a ride, not a race. Ride to your abilities and respect all road rules, other riders and road users.
There will be Traffic Controllers out on course for your safety, we will also have volunteer marshals on course to provide direction for you, so please follow their direction and listen to their warnings.
We will be there to cheer you in at the finish line – you have done it, you have conquered your course! It is now time to sit back with family and friends, old and new, at the Event Village. Enjoy the afternoons atmosphere, a well-deserved cold drink and grab a bite to eat from some of the local food trucks on site.
Enjoy the ride! David Kemp, Ride Director

WELCOME FROM THE QLD GOVERNMENTMessage from the Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement. The Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe MP
Welcome to the Noosa Classic, a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and community, and hopefully explore some of the superb tourism experiences on offer here.
The impacts of the pandemic have provided incredible challenges, but thanks to the hard work of Queenslanders our state was one of the first to put in place a COVID Safe Event Framework which paved the way for events such as this one to take place.
The Queensland Government is proud to support Noosa Classic, through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program and it is a feature on our It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar. Events are an important part of our state’s economic recovery from the pandemic because they attract visitors to the region which stimulates the local economy and supports local jobs. Events are also an important opportunity for communities, friends, families and visitors to come together, creating community pride and reconnecting us.
Congratulations to the event organisers and all those involved in organising this event – may it be a successful one.
If you are visiting for the event, I encourage you to make some time to explore the diverse tourism experiences on offer in this beautiful region.
The Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement.

COVID-19 SAFE EVENTThe Noosa Classic will be operating as a COVID Safe event. Please ensure we have your correct contact phone number as any weather updates will be sent to all riders by text.
NUTRITION AND HYDRATIONThis is a Sunday ride, but not like your usual hit out. Two factors cannot be underestimated:
● Even at 30km/h riders will be out for 5-plus hours on the bike. ● Riders should consume 1g of carbohydrate per kilogram of body weight per hour.
Every rider should carry some nutrition to start the ride e.g. gels, bananas, muesli bars. Also riders are encouraged to carry two 750 ml water biddons. Plan to drink all your fluids by the time you get to the next station. Do not wait to feel thirsty before you drink, by then it will be too late.
DROP RUBBISH ZONEThe Noosa Classic is an environmentally friendly event. Please retain all rubbish (such as tubes, canisters, gel and food wrappers, etc) and discard in bins at the Rest Stops. Anyone caught littering will be removed from the event.
PHOTO RIGHTSUpon registering for the event, the rider acknowledges the event organisers can freely use their images and footage for publicity and promotion of the event in all media (television, radio, press, internet, posters, cards, flyers, pictures and videos), without the right to receive any financial compensation from the event organisers.
