Bingo is a fun game that people play around the world. From church basements to playing online, this game is enjoyed by a diverse crowd of all age ranges. This is why it may not be surprising to learn that many bingo world records have been set throughout the game's history.
According to the Guinness World Records and other record-setting organizations, these are just a few of the more notable ones.
LARGEST GAME OF BINGO
This record is an interesting one since Bingo can usually only be played by a few people at a time. Online bingo games can have more players, but space often limits in-person games.
Well, a large retailer in South America decided to host a game and set a world record at the same time. They ended up with 70,080 people in attendance. This record for the largest game of Bingo took place in Bogota, Colombia in 2006 and hasn't been broken in that time. The crowd was pretty happy too and won thousands worth of cash prizes.
LARGEST ONLINE BINGO GAME
Since online games can accommodate more players, many people who enjoy bingo turn to virtual gaming. Organized by Coca-Cola in Tokyo Japan in 2010, the largest online game of bingo was set here. There were 493,824 players in the game, which must have been a chaotic game! Even if you play in crowded online bingo rooms, chances are, you haven't gotten anywhere near this number!
LARGEST BINGO CARD
This world record is one of the more amusing ones and was set by Gala Bingo in 2014. For their annual ball, Gala Bingo along with a team of reality television stars decided to set a world record. They build the largest bingo card measuring 4.98m x 1.99m. It was a great event and used to play bingo along with raising money for a charity.
LARGEST JACKPOT WON IN BINGO
Although the payouts for Bingo can vary a great deal, some games will pay out three digits for a jackpot. This is an impressive amount, but it's not even close to the record. The National Bingo Game Platinum Jackpot paid out 1,167,795 in English pounds in 2008 to their lucky winner, Soraya Lowell. The game took place in The Club 3000 in Coatbridge, Scotland and set a world record.

Most games of bingo take place in halls or online but have you ever played at a high altitude? Well, 24 Gala Coral employees trekked up to Mount Everest's base camp and played a few games while they were up there. At an altitude of 17,500 feet above sea level, they set the record for the highest game of Bingo. It's probably going to remain the world record for quite a while!

Young Baker Makes Millennium Falcon Cake From Scratch
A cake that looks like The Millennium Falcon from the Star Wars films is turning heads on social media.
The impressive cake was made by 23-year-old baker Maddie Carlos in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
Maddie started out baking cupcakes for fun in high school. She often posted photos of her desserts on Facebook and people started asking if they could order them. Eventually, her home kitchen wasn't big enough to keep up with the orders so she opened her own bakery, Something Sweet by Maddie Lu, in May 2015.
Baking from scratch, she and her team of bakers create custom cakes, cupcakes, and desserts for any occasion.

The Virginia Alliance for Animal Shelters and the Virginia Animal Control Association worked together on a bill during the 2018 General Assembly session that passed both the House of Delegates and the Senate unanimously. SB 571 requires all releasing agencies (public shelters, private shelters, home-based rescues, etc.), animal control officers, law-enforcement officers, and humane investigators to ask and document if it is known that the dog or cat has bitten a person or other animal. The circumstances and date of the bite also need to be documented. Then, when dog or cat is adopted, returned to the rightful owner, or transferred to another agency, the documented information must be disclosed. The violation of such requirements is a Class 3 misdemeanor. The bill became law on July 1st.
According to news reports in June of 2017, a family in Virginia Beach adopted a pit bull; within a few hours, the 90 year-old mother who lived with the family had been fatally mauled. Other reports throughout the country tell of shelters that repeatedly adopt out dogs that have bitten humans, attacked other dogs, or killed other dogs.
Sharon Adams, chair of the Virginia Alliance for Animal Shelters, said, “While all shelters and rescues want to adopt all of the wonderful animals coming into our care, we also share the additional

Several years ago, our records on a certain dog were subpoenaed during a civil lawsuit because a person was bitten by a dog they believed had been adopted from us. What kept us from being sued was that the dog had not been adopted by us, but had been picked up as a stray and returned to the owner. We have a policy that we do not adopt out animals that we believe are aggressive.
We believe that the ease with which it worked its way through the legislative branch of the Commonwealth government sends a message that organizations that deal with animals have a responsibility to help protect public safety.

If you know bluegrass, you know Bobby Hicks. That high, lonesome sound you get when playing two consecutive strings way up the neck of a fiddle – that’s all Bobby Hicks. From his early years playing with the godfather Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys to second-generation bluegrass outfits of the 1970s like the seminal Bluegrass Album Band (a collaboration with, among others, Danville-native and guitar legend Tony Rice), Bobby has left his trademark sound all over the genre and has 10 Grammy awards sitting on his bookshelf to prove it.

The First Annual Bluegrass by the River Festival will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 2 Witches Winery & Brewing Co. at 209 Trade St right here in Danville, Virginia. The festival will showcase live, professional bluegrass and Americana music sourced from the very place it all began – Southern Virginia. This year, Bobby Hicks is joined by renowned Swedish instrumentalist Jan Johansson for a set that is guaranteed to please. Though the recent IBMA Hall of Fame inductee might be this year’s main attraction, Hicks tops off a lineup of other incredible musicians who all take that high, lonesome sound and make it their own.
Well-known local performers Jay Shelton and Friends – consisting Ernie Power on dobro, Stuart Werner on banjo, Glenn Scaggs on bass and Jackie Cooper on mandolin – are no strangers to the ever-evolving bluegrass scene and its roots in their hometowns. With nearly a century’s worth of touring between them, the group rip through bluegrass staples and share harmony vocal duties throughout their entire set. An old friend of Bobby’s, Jay Shelton has been fronting bluegrass bands since he was underage and had to be snuck into venues. “I thought it was about time we had a festival of our own here in town and the first person I thought of was Bobby,” he says with a grin.
With roots in country, Americana and southern rock, Crawford & Power take traditional bluegrass instruments such as the dobro and give them new life. The duo consists of Jake Crawford on guitar and vocals and Ethan Power on dobro and lap steel. The young duo are heirs to that celebrated sound born of the Blue Ridge and aren’t to be missed.
Local patrons of the Bright Leaf Brew Fest should be pleasantly familiar with Franklin County’s The Harwell Grice Band. The traditional bluegrass outfit takes the moonshine their county is so famously known for and bottles it into fast-paced, blistering renditions of bluegrass favorites.
The lineup will also include the renowned, award-winning duo of Jeanette and Johnny Williams. There’s hardly room to list this stunning duo’s accolades – from IBMA awards to chart-topping bluegrass performances, Jeanette and Johnny have been getting it done for more than twenty years.
Proceeds for the festival will go to our Sheriff's Office's local chapter of Project Lifesaver, a non-profit organization designed to protect and locate individuals with cognitive disorders who are prone to life-threatening behavior.
While on the phone for one of their now-more-frequent conversations, Jay Shelton asked his old friend what made him want to play this new festival in Danville and if he’s excited to be he year’s headliner. “Oh, heck, Jay.” he says, “Of course I am. All you had to do was ask.”

South Side Region Celebration was formed last year to help foster unity in the Danville area. Its vision is to be a 'catalyst for a spiritual community awakening, creating unification and cohesion between church and community while providing an environment to spread the good news of God through music and word to both the church and the unchurched.

Mr. Ronald Hall, age 66, of Danville, VA, passed away on Monday, September 03, 2018 at SOVAH Health in Danville, VA.
He was born on August 18, 1952, in Newark/Es-sex, County, NJ, to the late Andrew Hall and Thelma
Hargroves Hall.
Before becoming disabled, Mr. Hall worked as a ware-house person and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his brothers, Larry Hall and wife Loretta and Butch Hall; sister, Anna Hall; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hall was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Hall and sister, Deborah Hall.

She was an active member of Hope Chapel in Apex, NC. She is survived by her husband: Keith Brown of Dur-ham, NC, her mother: Nancy Kapornyai of Danville, VA., brothers: Dan/Wrenne of Franklington, NC, Alan/Mary of Palm Bay, Fl., and Tim/Jodi of Dry Fork, VA. “What is REAL?” asked the rabbit one day... does it hurt?”
“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”
“Does it happen all at once, or bit by bit?”
“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or who have sharp edges, or have to becarefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.” (TheVelveteen Rabbit, by Margery Williams)
Real. It is a lovely word for a child’s story book. But it is lovelier far in those instances in which it can be applied in the real world, and especially to Christians. And, like the sage advice given to the Velveteen Rabbit by the wise old Skin Horse, I have found that “Real” is the process of years and use, not the instantaneous creation of a prayer. Salvation happens instantly; of that there is nodoubt. The thief on the cross accepted Christ one moment, and not many minutes later was with him in Paradise.
But salvation and Christianity are not quite the same thing. To be saved is simply to be redeemed from sin and on your way to heaven. To be a Christian is to go far beyond salvation; to be a Christian is
to become like Christ. And, interestingly, that title was not one that people chose forthemselves; it was a banner applied to them by others. Acts 11:26 says, “And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembledthemselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”
They did not name themselves Christians, they were called Christians by others. People saw theirmanner of living, their attitudes, their faithfulness, and reasoned, “those people remind us so much of that man they called Christ! We should call them Christians.”
They were real.
Twenty years ago I became fascinated by that thought as read the Velveteen Rabbit. I really have no idea the particular religious affections, if any, of the author. I just know that the process shedescribed seems so much like the process by which a person becomes a real Christian.

Bingo. Becoming a real Christian certainly does seem to take a long time. Day by day the Word of God molds us and shapes us, and year by year that process makes us more like Christ. It doesn’t often happen to people who
break easily; the attacks of Satan and the cares of life andconflicts with others shatter them before they can become Real. It doesn’t often happen to people who have sharp edges; they cannot be used and worn in because everyone is afraid to be nearthem. It doesn’t often happen to those who have to be carefully kept; people who always manage to have their feelings hurt never stay in any one place long enough to have God’s Word, God’sman, and God’s people do them any good.
Generally, by the time a Christian is Real, most of their hair has been loved off, and their eyes are getting dim, and they get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all,because once a Christian is Real they can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand, though there will always be plenty of those.
Christ was Real. He stood hard against sin and yet loved sinners. He was beaten and battered and abused by and for those that he loved yet he never quit. He could have lashed out in anger, butIsaiah says that through it all he “opened not his mouth.” He cared only for those he came to save, and was willing to be mocked and abused along the way. And when he rose again the third day, his “Real” went to a whole new level. There was never anyone like him, and yet we arecommanded to be like him.

Try Baking Soda for Underarm Odor---DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 77-year-old female. I had a left-breast lumpectomy (with some lymph nodes removed) about 15 years ago, leaving me with a much heavier right breast. I don’t know whether this plays an important role with my problem.Since the surgery, I have had a problem controlling underarm odor. I do not use any aluminum-based products. I have tried vinegar, milk of magnesia and a deodorant made from milk of magnesia. Within a matter of just a few hours, I notice quite an odor, particularly in my right armpit, which gets worse as the day goes on. I do not perspire profusely, but do develop some underarm moisture. Can you think of any reason this is happening, or any remedy that might work for me? I would appreciate your comments. -- D.M.M.ANSWER: I would start by trying a non-antiperspirant deodorant. These are not aluminum-based and work well for most people.If the deodorant doesn’t work, you should consider another old-fashioned remedy that you haven’t tried: baking soda. It changes the pH of the armpit and helps to keep it dry, and both of those things help get rid of odor.Underarm odor is caused by bacteria that live on our skin; the sweat itself is odorless. Thus, if you get rid of the bacteria, you can get rid of the odor. I have pre-scribed topical antibiotics on occasion. Some people have told me that an alcohol-based hand-sanitizing gel helps. It might be that it dries out the skin and also kills bacteria. I would be cautious about overus-ing this as a solution. The underarm is a sensitive area that can get irritated.I’d be happy to hear from readers about other solu-tions for this common problem, and I will report back on the most successful methods.***DEAR DR. ROACH: I have severe halitosis. I have had my sinuses, teeth and gums checked to see if they are the cause of the odor, but the dentist and ENT found nothing. I was referred by my primary doctor to a G.I. specialist, who found I had a sliding hiatal hernia, which was causing acid reflux. He recommended surgery to push the stomach back into its normal po-sition below the diaphragm. I decided to pass on the surgery. He recommended taking over-the-counter medications such as Nexium, but after several days my lower back started to hurt, so I stopped taking them. I am reconsidering the surgery and was won-dering if this is a good idea. Is it possible that the hernia has nothing to do with the halitosis? -- E.H.ANSWER: Experts believe that 90 percent of the time, halitosis comes from the mouth. What your gastro-enterologist is suggesting as the cause of the halitosis is plausible. I found several anecdotal cases where surgery cured the halitosis. However, it’s not only pos-sible that the hiatal hernia has nothing to do with the halitosis, I think it is unlikely that it does. Since surgery would not otherwise be recommended for a sliding hiatal hernia, I can’t recommend surgery.***
