Over 6,500 fans flocked to see comic book legends Roy Thomas and Steve Englehart, compete in the two GoGeek cosplay competitions, and spend time with a diverse, inclusive crowd who all share a love for the culture and art form.
GoGeek Events brings its inclusionary ethics and family atmosphere that makes Portsmouth Comic Con a delight for all flavours of comic fan.
“I’ve been to a lot of comic conventions in the last three decades. This is a fine show, something the organisers should be proud of.”
- Bleeding Cool
“Portsmouth Comic Con was again a huge success! It’s a great way to see so many people with similar interests enjoying themselves”
- Steve Lowe, Game Over, Panel Sponsor 2019
PORTSMOUTH GUILDHALLDescribed as the “Beating Heart” of the city, Portsmouth Guildhall is the area’s premier entertainment venue, and one of the most dramatic additions to the city’s horizon. Best known for playing host to artists including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and more recently Oasis and Gorillaz, Portsmouth Guildhall offers more than just legendary concerts. Portsmouth Guildhall attracts 280,000 visitors a year, attending over 780 events including large annual festivals / conventions including Big Mouth Comedy Festival, Guildhall Games Fest & Sausage & Cider Festival.
With more than a dozen spaces across three floors in the venue, Portsmouth International Comic Con is set to become an event like no other with an anticipated 8,000 visitors coming from across the UK, US and Europe. As the UK’s only Island City, home of landmarks including Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard, the Mary Rose and HMS Warrior, Portsmouth is a unique and vibrant location with excellent transport links from London, Brighton, Southampton and the rest of the South East, providing guests and sponsors a chance to engage with passionate fans from a large area.
We are also a registered charity (The Guildhall Trust) with a mission to support our local community. The Charles Dickens ward, where the Guildhall is located, is one of the most deprived in England with 1 in 4 children and young people living in deprivation. Through our objectives we strive to inspire, impact and transform lives through entertainment, performance and dynamic learning opportunities. In 2019, we engaged with 12,000 children and young adults in the city and delivered an extensive programme of learning and participation to make skills learning easily accessible, rewarding and fun. We work with local schools and provide facilities and experiences they would usually be unable to access. Through our new emerging performance space, The Studio, we have launched vital skills courses, including our Get Involved workshops, Industry and Creative Choices Days, giving children and young adults the guidance to pursue pathways into careers in the creative industry. All proceeds from Comic Con fed straight back into the charity to support our essential outreach work.
