Weather & ClimateDay 2

February 2, 2020

ClimateWhat is the difference between climate and weather. Climate is the average weather pattern of a region over a period of time. Climate can be described by many factors such as...

*Temperature-precipitation graph*Winds*Air Pressure*Landforms*Ocean Currents

Many people get climate and weather mixed up but the main difference is Climate is measured over TIME.

KEY WORD: CLIMATE = TIME

WeatherWell if climate is the average weather of a region over time, then what is weather? If you have ever said "It's hot outside" or "It's so cloudy." What you talking about or describing is weather. Weather is what it is like outside at any given place and time.Characteristics of weather are...

*Temperature (How Hot or Cold a place is)~Measured using a thermometer

*Humidity*Air Pressure*Cloud cover*Wind

~Anemometer*Precipitation

Difference between Weather & ClimateAll you need to Remember is climate is the average weather of a region over TIME. As Weather is what it is like outside at any moment. So even though some of the characteristics might be the same. Climate is over TIME and Weather is RIGHT NOW!

Air PressureDay 3

February 2, 2020

After completing the experiment in your science notebook answer these two questions....

February 2, 2020

Today we will be completing a science experiment on air pressure.

February 2, 2020

Air PressureTodays science experiment dealt with air pressure. Air Pressure is the force put on a given area by the weight of the air above it. While temperature is measured by a thermometer Air Pressure is measured using a barometer. Air Pressure can be described in two ways...*High Pressure*Low Pressure

*Air Pressure is the force on an area by the weight above it*Air Pressure is measured with a barometer*2 types of air pressure:

*HIGH (Increase)*LOW (Decrease)

KEY WORD: BAROMETER = AIR PRESSURE

Air PressureDay 4

How Can Air Pressure ChangeYesterday we did an experiment and talked about air pressure. Just like there are factors that determine weather and climate there are also factors that can affect air pressure. One way that air pressure changes is based on the height Above Earth's Surface. Air Pressure is greatest at Sea Level because the air molecules are packed tightly together. So as you go up in the atmosphere Air Pressure Decreases.

*Air Pressure greatest at Sea Level*Air Pressure decreases as you go up

Other factors that can affect air pressure: *Temperature:

~When it's HOT air pressure Decreases. (Hot=Decrease)~When it's COLD air pressure Increases. (Cold=Increase)

*Amount of Water Vapor (Also known as HUMIDITY)

*Temperature:*HOT = Decrease in Air Pressure*COLD = Increase in Air Pressure

*Amount of Water Vapor

How Can Air Pressure Change

Types of Air PressureYes, there are actually two types of Air Pressure that you commonly hear which are..... *High Pressure *Low Pressure

February 2, 2020

LOW PRESSURE Low Pressure brings WARM and RAINY skies. As air warms it expands causing the air molecules to spread out causing air pressure to decrease. So if the weather is warm, cloudy, and rainy there is a Low Pressure system in the area.

*Low Pressure brings warmer and rainy skies*Low Pressure is UP in the atmosphereKEY WORD: LOW PRESSURE = WARMER, CLOUDY, RAINY

NOTES:

High Pressure brings COOL and CLEAR skies. As air cools it contracts causing the air molecules to come together causing air pressure to increase. So if the weather is cool, clear, and fair there is a High Pressure system in the area.

*High Pressure brings cooler and clear skies*High Pressure is Close to the GroundKEY WORD: HIGH PRESSURE = COOLER, CLEAR, FAIR

HIGH PRESSURE
