Volunteer Opportunities

Assist older adults in the community with a flexible outdoor volunteer opportunity! Chore Corp assists with snow shoveling, raking, yard clean-up, weeding, brush removal and more. Check our website for even more volunteer opportunities.

Registration Cancellation Policy Conflicts happen, so if you register for a program and need to withdraw, contact the office at least 5 business days prior to the program and receive a refund, less a $5 processing fee. We do our best to offer all programs advertised. Many programs have a minimum enrollment. If there are not enough interested participants, and the program is cancelled, participants will receive a full refund. All membership and punch card pass sales are final.

Prairie Island Dog Park Prairie Island Road, Winona, MN Prairie Island Dog Park is a designated place for your dog to be safely off-leash, socialize with other dogs, and get some exercise. Hours: Sunrise to sunset daily.

Parks & Trails Winona’s park system contains 27 parks, 3,000 acres of park land, & numerous paved and unpaved trails. Additional trail maps and resources are available on our website!

Holzinger Trails Bluffside Park is home to the Holzinger Trail System, which is perfect for running, hiking, or mountain biking. Located 1.2 miles from Lake Lodge, the park holds 9 miles of bluff side trails and picturesque lookouts over the valley. Trails vary in difficulty.

Sugar Loaf Trails & Rock Climbing Sugar Loaf is Winona’s most well-known landmark and a popular destination for rock climbing. The hiking trail starts on the North side of the bluff and winds its way up to the base of Sugar Loaf. The trailhead and parking is located on East Lake Blvd.

Winona Ice Park The outdoor recreation world is abuzz over the Winona Ice Park, which cascades hundreds of feet down the bluffs to create one of the country’s premiere climbing opportunities. The ice park is created through collaboration between The Recreation Alliance of Winona and the City of Winona. Note: Specialized equipment and climbing experience (or an expert guide) are required to climb.

Prairie Island Campground Prairie Island Campground, located right on the Mississippi River, offers 80 electrical and 115 non-electrical sites. The adjacent parkland offers a play-ground, horseshoe and volleyball pits, 1.5 miles of hiking trails, excellent fish-ing, and abundant wildlife viewing. Ice Rinks Outdoor Neighborhood Rinks Season start and end dates are weather-dependent. Lights run from 4:30pm - 9:30pm daily. Rinks are free and unstaffed (with the exception of Lake Lodge).

Noon Hockey Bud King Ice Arena Tuesdays, 12:00pm - 1:00pm $3 daily or included $30 Season Skate Pass (good for all open hockey, and public skate times), goalies are free. Drop in hockey games are self-officiated; players divide into two teams and scrimmage following USA hockey rules. Helmets required–all other gear is strongly recommended. Doors open 30 minutes before play begins. Must be at least 18.

WINONArts Bud King Ice Arena

Public Skate

Public skating is a fun filled activity for all ages to enjoy. Skating sessions begin in November and run thru March. The arena is a great place to bring a youth group, birthday party, or reward your employees with a company outing. Open sessions are subject to a capacity limit.

Open Hockey — Youth & Adult Open public hockey is a fun and competitive atmosphere for all ages and skill levels to enjoy. Bud King offers two different time slots for different hockey abilities as well. Youth open hockey is for ages 17 and under, ages 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Adult open hockey is available for ages 18 and over.

Season Pass

Season Passes are good for all Open Skate, Open Hockey and Open Broomball times at the Bud King Ice Arena, including winter break and spring break. For open skate times, go to the Winona Area Youth Hockey Association website. Membership Options: Lake Lodge memberships include unlimited use of all equipment. Memberships can be purchased online or in person. Annual Memberships: $35 — Good for one calendar year from date of purchase.

Lake Lodge Recreation Center

Lake Park Path Did you know Lake Park Path is plowed in the winter? This 5.2 mile trail is plowed throughout the winter and ready to be used year round! The East Lake is 3.5 miles around and West Lake is 1.7 miles.

Open Ice Skating Skating is available on East Lake Winona, right in front of Lake Lodge! Mem-berships include skate rentals, but the ice is always open to everyone!

Snowshoeing Snowshoe rentals are included in your Lake Lodge membership! Snowshoes can be rented and taken off-site for up to 24 hours and are available on a first come, first serve basis. Ask the friendly Lake Lodge staff for information about these great local snowshoe destinations.

Sweetheart Skate This Valentine’s Day join us at Lake Lodge for an

evening skate with your sweetheart! From 4-7 pm, you can enjoy skating on the lake as well as hot cocoa, cookies, and a roaring fire inside Lake Lodge. A perfect way to celebrate with your Valentine.

East Recreation Center At the East Recreation Center we create environments and experiences that help you PLAY and connect with others. Membership required but FREE! Must be age 6 or older to be in the ERC without an adult.

East Recreation Center

Indoor Farmer’s Market 2 Saturdays per Month: November 6th & 20th, December 4th & 18th January 8th & 22nd, February 5th & 19th March 5th & 19th, April 9th & 23rd Join us at the East Recreation Center two Saturdays per month, November through April. Get your fresh food fix, sip some coffee, interact with friends and enjoy a leisurely morning.

Winona Seed Library Thanks to a partnership with WSU, the East Recreation Center is a host site for the Winona Seed Library! The Seed library strives to educate, exchange, and preserve seeds for the Winona community. Do you have seeds to donate to the library? Contact the Friendship Center to learn how to make your donation or pick out seeds!

Volleyball East Recreation Center Women's: Mon. & Tues. 6-10pm, Men's: Wed. 6-10pm Registration closes on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 12:00pm. Women's divi-sions 3 & 4 play on Mondays starting January 10th. Women's divisions 1 & 2 play on Tuesdays starting January 11th. Men's division plays on Wednesdays starting January 12th. Self-officiated matches consist of 3 games to 25, rally scoring. $190 team fee—$60 late fee after 12/10 if space allows.

Basketball East Recreation Center Thursdays, 6:00, 7:00, & 8:00 pm Registration closes on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 12:00pm. Open Division plays on Thursdays starting December 2nd. $200 team fee—$60 late fee after 11/25 if space allows.

Kickball Bambenek Fields 3 & 4 Six regular season games + playoffs Sundays, September 12-October 31 Game times: 3:30 PM, 4:30 PM, or 5:30 PM $190 per team — $60 late fee if after deadline.

Seasonal Offerings Summer Offerings: Softball: Sundays-Co Rec divisions 1-4; Mondays, Men's 35+ & Women's; Tuesdays-Men's division 1-3; Wednesdays-Men's divisions 7-8; Thursdays-Men's divisions 4-6; Season is May-August.

Spring Offerings: Volleyball: 6 v 6; co-ed 7 games plus playoffs. Thursdays, February-April; game times are 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 p.m.

Drop-In Pickleball East Recreation Center Thursday, 8:00pm - 10:00pm September—December No pickleball 11/25 The East Recreation Center gym has 3 pickleball courts! All levels of players welcome. Nets and balls provided, bring your own paddle. Free member-ship is required to play.

Drop-In Broomball Lake Lodge Recreation Center Wed. 5:00pm-7:00pm & Sat. 2:00pm-4:00pm No experience necessary! Lake Lodge membership includes all Broomball equipment, but a membership is not required to play! Footwear is your choice. Must be at least 18 or have a guardian signed waiver.

Drop-In Volleyball East Recreation Center Tuesday, 8:00-10:00pm September 14 - December 28 2 courts available for play at East Recreation Center gym! Drop-in volleyball games are self-officiated, teams will form upon arrival. Free and open to all skill levels. Volleyballs are available if needed. Free membership required.

Bridges Health Clinics: All services are provided at Sobieski Lodge 965 East 7th Street, Winona Thursdays 10:00am-3:00pm Sept. 2-Dec. 2 A one hour appointment with nursing students from Winona State includes foot soak, nail trim, and massage for just $5. Free health check-ins are also available. Services preformed by Winona State students include neck and shoulder massage, health assessments, blood pressure checks and more!

Driftless Ukes: Free Mon 1:15-2:15pm Sep 13-Dec 27 The Driftless Uke group meets weekly to practice music, laugh, and have a good time. Whether you're an experience uke player or just picked up your first ukulele, this welcoming group is open to all.

Genealogy Club: Free 1st Tues 1:30-3pm Sep 7-Dec 7 The Genealogy Club provides education, resources, and encouragement in researching their own or other family trees and histories. All levels of experience and newcomers welcome.

Memory Café: Free Wed 2:30-3:30pm Sep 1-Dec 29 Join us for a stigma free one-hour program. It’s a time to socialize and engage with others, exchange experiences, support one another, and learn something new. From the Suez Canal to Dolly Parton, we explore a new topic every week!

Located in the scenic Valley Oaks subdivision of Winona,

adjacent to a playground and park, includes an outdoor

shelter area, also adjacent to tennis and basketball courts.

The Jaycee Shelter is the largest rentable shelter and

includes approximately 25 picnic tables, plentiful green

space, and is tucked in the Bambenek Field Complex.

The Lions Shelter is located on East Lake Winona, holds

approximately 20 picnic tables, is adjacent to the Lake

Park. Amenities: portable toilet, lights, electricity

This shelter is on the West Lake adjacent to the bike path

and playground. The nine hole disc golf course and fishing

docks are also nearby. Amenities: portable toilet

The Kiwanis Shelter is perched on the Mississippi River next

to the spill way. It holds approximately 15 picnic tables.

Unity Park is located in Lake Winona Park and is

home to many festivals and events throughout the

year. This is a beautiful site under Sugar Loaf and

right on East Lake Winona. The site is equipped

with electricity. Amenities: 200 amp electrical

service, portable toilet nearby, shade canopy is

available for an additional fee of $64

The Rose Garden Gazebo boasts over 200

roses and is a romantic setting for weddings.

Located in the heart of Lake Park on the East

The Bob Welch Aquatic Center is a Zero Depth Olympic

Size Pool with a 208 ft water slide, diving boards, lap

lanes, large patio, plenty of grass area, shade, and two

playgrounds. The fee includes lifeguards.

Bob Welch Aquatic Center—780 West 4th Street

The Friendship Center facility includes a large banquet

room, a full kitchen, bathrooms, meeting rooms, and is

ADA accessible. To make a reservation and for more

information, please visit them in person at 251 Main St.

The Historic Masonic Theatre is located at the

corner of 5th & Main Street. This is a great space

for special events, concerts, weddings,

workshops, and other celebrations.

General Information: Shelters and lodges are available for full days (8a-10p) or half

day rental times with time slots of 8a-3p OR 4p-10p. The time of your rental is the time

you can occupy the space, so be sure to rent the times you need to include set up,

decorating, and clean up. You may not take items and decorate prior to your rental

time and may not leave items or clean up until the next day. Reservations can be made

online or in person at the Park & Rec office. All applicable sales tax apply and are

included in the fee.

Cancellations: If the reservation is cancelled prior to 5 business days of the event, a

refund will be given less a $20 processing charge. No refund will be given if the event is

cancelled for any reason within 5 business days. If needing to make changes to the

reservation such as date, time, or location please contact the Park & Recreation Office

at least 5 business days prior to the event. A processing charge of $10 will be due at

the time of each change.

Damage Deposits: A $100 damage/maintenance deposit in the form of a CHECK

(personal or cashiers) is required for all rentals. Special damage/maintenance deposits

may apply for Levee Park, Parks, and Special Events: $250, $500, or $1,000. We will

notify the renter if one of these amounts is required. No cash or credit cards are

accepted for damage deposits.
