Network control at Düsseldorf Cityworks

Combined control center From 2000 merger of the control rooms 2004 to 2005, control centre staff from different

sectors were trained together (Simone was used as a training simulator)

Since 2006 staff of the various sectors work interactively

Why online network calculations?

Decision-making tool in the evaluation of complex network operations

Planned or unplanned closing of network sections Planned or unplanned closing or partial closing of gas metering

and pressure regulating stations Pressure adjustment in the networks Monitoring of load flow

Why online network calculations?

Aims in operational management Review of the supply situation for proposed closures Establish the control variables for controlling Evaluate the impacts of changes in the network switching

status Provide information about abnormal conditions in current

operations

Why online network calculations?

Why integrated calculation Uniformity for all devisions Reduction of various software applications No interfaces to transfer the dynamic operational data No double data maintenance work Intuitive handling of the calculation within uniform user

interface Simple integration of calculation results into operational

decisions Available and applicable at all times

System integration

Common data handling All data stored in control system database

- topology- technical data- figures

Import of GIS data- cyclic incremental into control system database- objects keep their identity- pipes and network equipment- generation of geographic oriented figures

Import of consumption data- cyclic incremental into control system database- annual consumptions from billing system

System integration

Applications State estimation

- adaption of the load model- calibration tool- determines current flow conditions in the network - information on locations without measurement is available

System integration

Applications State estimation

- adaption of the load model- calibration tool- determines current flow conditions in the network - information on locations without measurement is available

Look ahead simulation- check network behaviour before a operation is carried out- determines network status for future load and switching szenarios- load forecasts and nominations are considered - improvement of operation mode

Visualisation Indication

- display of measured and/or calculated values- indication of discrepancies- indication of alarms

Coloured network diagrams- flow- pressure- velocity- lots of others (diameter, subnet, age ...)

Flow arrows Bubble help for object informations Curves
