10 DOWNING STREET
THE PRIME MINISTER
My dear Minister,
8 June, 1979.
I am deeply grateful for all that you did to make my visit
-to France last Tuesday so enjoyable. I greatly enjoyed our
discussion over lunch at the Elysee and much appreciated your
kindness in accompanying me on the visit to Tricastin which
your Government had been good enough to arrange for me.
I was deeply impressed by all that I saw at Tricastin, not
only by the obviously superb quality of the engineering in
the gaseous diffusion plant and in the nuclear reactors, but
also by the vision and courage to which the whole enterprise
.testified. France is indeed fortunate to have taken such a great
stride towards a solution of the immense problems which will con-
front all of us in Europe during the coming decade.
I should like to send you this photograph as a memento of
a most enjoyable and absorbing afternoon.
With every best wish,
Yours sincerely,
(SGD) MT
Son Excellence Monsieur Alain Peyrefitte
