Bridge to K, Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade News
On Thursday, January 29, 2015, Hammon Public Schools celebrated its 100th day of school. Bridge to K,
Kindergarten, First grade, and Second grade celebrated by making 100th day hats, wearing our “I Am 100
Days Brighter” shirts, and doing many different activities that involve the number 100. Some of our
100th day activities included seeing how many jumping jacks, sit ups, name writing, and counting we
could do in 100 seconds. We also talked
about our favorite memories of the first
100 days, and what we hoped to do or
learn in the next 100 days.

We came back from Christmas
break ready to learn and are in
the full swing of things. In math
we are learning about line
segments, 3-dimensional shapes,
and line symmetry. Please
continue to practice math facts at
home.
We had two birthdays in
January; Guillermo Villegas and
Justice Espinosa. We hope they
both had very special days!
We also celebrated the 100th
day of school this month. We
painted t-shirts, made crowns,
and our classroom was
decorated.
Valentine’s Day will be here
before we know it and a list of
students in our class will be
going home to help with filling
out Valentines. Everybody
bundle up and stay warm!!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Third Grade News
I hope everyone had a great Christmas Break and a Happy New Year. In January, the third grade class
has been working hard on our multiplication facts. Please keep
reviewing these facts throughout the year. Also, we have been
memorizing our speeches for the speech contest. I am very proud of
how hard they have been working!! Congratulations to Jalie Atkins,
Linsey Bullcoming, Lexee Benkley, Jakira Downs, Grace Krapcha, and
Taytum McIntosh for being chosen for the contest. In February, we
will have Parent-Teacher Conferences. I am looking forward to
visiting with you about your child’s
progress.
4th Grade
This month has been pretty
exciting in our classroom. We had
some fun announcements, we
worked hard on our speeches and
had tryouts, we have had several
birthday parties, and we presented
our inventions! Congratulations to
the winners of the speech tryouts
and good luck in February at the
contest!
In our reading unit we had a story
about inventors and some of the
very important inventions that have
shaped history, so the students
were assigned to come up with
their own their own inventions to
present to the class that filled a
need of theirs. They all did very
good and some might even need a
patent! I hope next month is just
as exciting!

5th Grade News Hello 2015! We have been getting back into the groove of things after our wonderful Christmas break. It takes a little bit of time to get back into the full swing of things. We have such a short year and so much to get accomplished that we just have to push on through, even though we miss our days of sleeping in. We have a writing test coming up at the end of February. We have been working on writing A LOT! We are getting better with every paper we write. We are expecting that our hard work will pay off. In science we have been studying the solar system. We each had a planet to research.
We did a report and a planet illustration to share with our classmates. We enjoyed a nice day outside doing a planet scavenger hunt. We found out some pretty cool things about our solar system. We had speech tryouts this past month. We worked feverishly to memorize and present to the judges. . There were six students chosen for the contest February 3rd. The students that represented Hammon this year at the Five County Speech Contest were Jaxon, Jolie, L.J., Alex, Kaylee, and Jessiah. We have enjoyed playing ballgames, and get thoroughly discouraged when we have to cancel. We have had to learn that things don’t always go the way we
want it to. We have worked hard to become better, and we would like to show off our skills. We look forward to the rest of our season. We are ready to see what 2015 holds for us. We have made our resolutions and are working to achieve them. If we can make it through February we will be on the downhill slide. We will have one test under our belts by then and will just have to worry about our other four tests.
6th grade So far, in the 6th grade we’ve had
some pretty cool science
experiments. There was a lava lamp
made in a water bottle and soon we
will experiment with a floating disc.
We have witnessed some very
interesting science experiments and
we all get to make our own soon.
Maybe we can invent something
new, but we will have to wait and
see what happens in the year.
This season of basketball for 5th and
6th grade girls has been fun! On
January 20th we played Seiling and
beat them 22-17.
It has been a month and five
days since we played our last
game on December 15th. In
practice we have been doing a lot
of conditioning drills like running
and jumping stairs, jumping rope,
and with all of our zig-zag warm
ups, plus all the straight line we
do, we do a total of 41 down and
backs. It has paid off a lot though.
In boys’ basketball, we lost to
Seiling with a score of 27-40. We
still had fun playing against them.
Then we played against
Sweetwater and we won, the
score was 40-24.
The speech contest is on
Tuesday, February 3 in Cheyenne
Oklahoma. These students will be
representing Hammon 6th grade:
Blanca Villegas, Adyson Wilson,
Jovani Rivera, J.D. Price, Oscar
Isabell, and Teagon Moler.
