Hi everyone Welcome back to Term 4. I hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday.
The staff certainly had a jam-packed day on Monday engaged in Protective Behaviours sessions, Trauma Training and Speech and Language presentations.
This term we have some additional students making regular transition trips to high school, both Warnbro CHS ESC and Rockingham SHS ESC and I wish them well. We also have Parent Night on Thursday 6th November between 5pm & 6pm. Please take the opportunity to visit your child’s classroom and view their work. We are also gearing up for the senior school camp in Week 6 and I already have many excited children.
Staff are busily trying to access funding to support our end of year Christmas lunch. Our increased student numbers mean that we need to look outside the Centre for a venue. If you have any contacts who would like to offer us a discounted rate for a venue please see either Mrs Barrodeen, Mrs Lucken or myself in the office. Thank you. Mrs Howorth - ESC Principal
Welcome back,
We have made a tremendous start to Term 4. It was a joy to note the many happy
faces of students returning to school, and hear their many positive holiday stories
spent with families. We ended last term on a high note with our fantastically
organised Talent Quest run by our music teacher Mrs Jeffrey. The quality and
diversity of the acts were tremendous. We have a lot of budding talent at Leda PS.
On Monday, before the students returned to school, our staff undertook some very
worthwhile professional development. Letters and Sounds (Years K-2) and Words
Their Way (Years 3-7) are two very successful language programs already operating
in the school. Several of our staff ran these sessions. The wealth of knowledge of
Leda staff is tremendous.
Class placements for 2015 will be determined in staff meetings this Term once we
know exactly what staff we will have for the 2015 academic year. If you have any
educational concerns/requirements about your child for next year that we should
know about, please place these concerns/requirements in an email that is
forwarded straight to me using the attached link or drop a letter into the
office addressed to the principal marked “Private and Confidential”.

What a great way to end the term with Miss Milton and the students of Room 9
hosting the last assembly. They acted out a story called ‘One’ by Katherine Otoshi
with a great message about accepting each others differences and how it
sometimes just takes one voice to make everyone count. They concluded their
item with a warm rendition of ‘You’ve got a Friend in Me’ from Toy Story.

AUTISM What is Autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD or Autism) is a disorder that effects a child’s social development, communication skills and the child may have repetitive behaviours and restricted interests. A referral is needed from your family doctor to visit a Paediatrician who will then refer your child on for further assessments with a multidisciplinary team in order for a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder to be given.
Social Development
A child with Autism has difficulty reading the body language, facial expressions or tone of voice of others. The child also does not see himself/herself influencing what is happening around them. Without these skills the child may not understand how to behave or interact appropriately. Therefore it is important to teach social routines and strategies to use in social situations.
As of 2015 we wish to advise the Leda Schools newsletter will only be available
electronically on our website. Should you not have access to a computer, a
number of printed copies will be available for collection from the front office.
DISABLED PARKING BAYS
Please do not park or stand in these bays if you do not have
an ACROD sticker on your vehicle. Even dropping children
off in these bays can be inconvenient for those people who need to use
them. Please be considerate for the safety and convenience of others.
