Phonics is a way of teaching children to read
They are taught how to - recognise sounds that each individual letter
makes- Identify sounds different combinations of
letters make – sh/ch/oo- blend the sounds
- They use this to ‘de-code’ new words
Research shows that is it the most effective way of teaching young children to read
- Please note most effective not the only way!- New Curriculum
Children who are taught phonics tend to read more accurately
The week of June 15th
Every child will take the phonics screening check
