Editorial…
As Robert Kennedy once said “some people look at things as they are and ask ‘why?’; others look at things
as they never were and ask ‘why not?’”. Rotaractors certainly belong to the second category because they
have what it takes to realize their dreams: ingenuity, determination and above all, an ignited passion.
With the beginning of the new Rotaract year, Rotaract Mora welcomed many new members who brought
with them, vitality, passion and dreams to the ever-active club. Just as enthusiastic as those whom they
replace, the new Rotaractors too continue to work towards realizing their vision of ‘Service Above Self’.
The new members are now merged with the seniors and the way they move forward together towards
their dreams is truly exemplary. The members may have changed, but the club continues to be the
epitome of unity; probably one of the biggest reasons behind the success of Rotaract Mora.
With the previous issue Flicker presented to you how the new kites set their primus flight in the New Year.
Once the new blood has joined Rotaract, they all share the same dream, a dream to come true. This time
Flicker, the splash of colours in a Rotaractor, unfolds the story of the past two
months, how they continued their dream…
The dreamers have changed, but the dream continues…

Vocalize By Akshika Wijesundara
The Vocalize, organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa
was held at the Civil Engineering Research Center on 3rd October, 2013
with the objective of enhancing the speaking skills and the leadership
skills of the University undergraduates.
One of the main target groups was the organizing committee of ‘Are You
Ready? 2013’, with the expectation of making them aware on the ethics to
maintain while having a phone call with a cooperate head. The project was
co-chaired by Rtr. Akshika Wijesundara and Rtr. Rajith Gun Hewage. The
event consisted of two main Sessions. The first session was done by the
Immediate Past President of Rotaract Mora Rtr. Chinthaka Dharmasiri. It was
a splendid session about ‘what you should do and should not do, during a
phone call’. It was followed by a great drama done by the fellow Rotaractors.
The main focus of the event was the session done by the distinguish
toastmaster Ms. Shriyanthi Marian Salgado. Her session was mainly focused
on the improvement of public speaking skills and usage of one’s own
creativity. She emphasized the importance of using English in the day to day
life to have a good command in English. Later the participants were grouped
and asked to present a small short drama, which was really an effective idea
everybody had to participate.
The program was a huge success and
gave a head start to each and every one
to develop the English speaking skills.

The biggest event in the calendar of Rotaract Mora, as well as one of the most prestigious events of the
University of Moratuwa, ‘Are You Ready?’, the official careers fair of the University organized in
collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of University of Moratuwa kicked started with its first session
on 08th of October. This year marking the 18th consecutive year of excellence, ‘Are You Ready? 2013’
encompasses six sessions including Flagship Day which is to be held on 20th of December where well known
employers around the country meet the prospective graduates.
‘CV Clinic’ was the first session of ‘Are You Ready? 2013’ and is
new to the ‘Are You Ready?’ program line up held so far. The
session was sponsored by the Millennium IT and was all about
preparing a killing Curriculum Vita. The session was also conducted
by professionals from the Human Resource Division of Millennium
IT. “The main objective of preparing a CV is to get an interview, not
to get the job...”, the professionals form the MIT emphasized the
importance of making the CV simple and to the point so as reflect
the true potential of the candidate to the recruiter.
The participants were also given the opportunity to get
their own curriculum vitae checked and corrected
during the session. The past Rotaractors from the
Rotaract Club of the University of Moratuwa, who are
now successful professionals in the industry helped in
this regard.
‘Are You Ready? 2013’ is being chaired by Rtr.
Himantha Alahakoon and Rtr. Sumudu Herath whilst
Rtr. Anushka Abeyrathne and Rtr. Sameera Gunarathne
chaired the inaugural session, the ‘CV Clinic’.
The rest of the sessions to be held during the week beginning from December 16th are ‘Engineers’ Forum’:
a panel discussion on current aspects related with engineering, ‘The Criterion’: a workshop to improve
professionalism, ‘YOUTM’: to guide in building up the professional network, ‘The Flagship Day’: real and
mock interview sessions for final year undergraduates and ‘Dining Etiquette and Grooming workshop’ to
promote the accepted behaviour in corporate society. The sole expectation of Rotaract Mora is to take

Best Wishes to Rotaract Alumni Mora…!!!
Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa was chartered as an official Rotaract Club in RI District
3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives by the Rotary International.
The club is being powered by the Rotaractors who were the members of Rotaract Club of University of
Moratuwa during their undergraduate period in the University. The grown-ups have now left the University
and have become emerging professionals in the industry. But with the intention of keeping in touch with
Rotaract Mora and lending their support to the club, they formed their own club, ‘Rotaract Alumni Mora’.
Its president, Rtr. Lahiru Bandara Gawarammana received the charter certificate from the President of the
Rotary Club of Colombo West Rtn. Jerome Rajendram at the previous general meeting of the Rotary Club
of Colombo West held at Galadari Hotel, Colombo recently.
‘We For You’, is the first community project to be launched by the Rotaract Alumni Mora which is about
lending a helping hand to some little souls who have been set aside by the society. It will commence in
collaboration with Rotaract Mora on 30th November, 2013 at Gouthama Orphanage Home, Panadura.

Are You Ready to know You Know Who?
Is it two overqualified undergraduates, one with a burnt Micro Pic and one with a
Toy bridge?
Sumudu Herath, one brilliant Civil engineering
undergraduate and Himantha Alahakoon the other, an
intelligent Electronics and Telecommunications
undergraduate will be the stars of the following narration
for they are the Co-chairs of the biggest project on
Rotaract Mora event calendar ‘ARE YOU READY? 2013’.
Summa and Hawa are very famous inside the university as
well as outside the university not because of something
funny or creepy but because of their willingness to help
everyone and never saying ‘NO’ for any work.
In addition to their success in academic work, both of them could have carved their
own personality in their colleagues' mind. Descending from a luxurious ‘walau
palenthiya’, Summa is financially strong enough to help you with a scholarship. His
boarding colleagues are the bulwark around summa. Sumudu being fondled as Summa is
obvious, but to know the legacy behind ‘Hawa’’ one has to refer to his birth certificate.
Hawa, whose first love is for trains is the guy with a Third Eye. Finding Hawa creeping
down somewhere with his third eye open is not a hardship.
Summa is an easy going bud while hawa is a nervous, but innocent
fellow. However their blend has indeed made the RUR 2013 rocking.
Anyone who steps into the RUR house of office at ‘-1/2’ (rina
bhagaya) in any time of the day, will never go unwelcomed by either
of their smiles.
True, they will annoy you sometimes as
they are heading you to work. But
mostly they will nudge you with an
adorable ‘Machan’ and deliver you some
work, where only the stones could slip
without obeying.
At times they are mad enough to forget their own lunch but 300+ company updates
with another 400+ RUR stuff is something that they will never forget. That is how the
days of RUR preparations are spent with our remarkable co-chairs.
With a bit off buff and lot of wit two spearheads await RUR 2013. The feeling of
chairing the greatest service project of Rotaract Mora and hosting the careers week
of one of the best Universities of Sri Lanka has made them humbly proud. Knowing
that there may be many obstacles and blessings on the forth coming road for them
Rotaract Mora passes good luck and wishes for these two buddies to make this ‘ARE YOU READY? 2013’ the
18th successful milestone!!!
