2 Samuel 23 1 Now these be the last words of

David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man

who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God

of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

God raised David up from being the lowliest son

of a common man

To become the anointed king of Israel

And the beloved psalmist of the people of God.

God can make us to be anything He wants us to be.

If you will let Him have His Way with you.

Let God have His

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV) For I know the plans I

have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to

prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you

hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and

come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.

You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me

with all your heart.

Then when?

When we turn from sin unto righteousness.

When we let God have His Way with us.

13 You will seek Me and find Me when you seek

Me with all your heart.

God does not honor nor bless a

half-hearted Christian or effort.

2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and His

Word was in my tongue. 3 The God of Israel said,

the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over

men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. 4 And

he shall be as the light of the morning, when the

sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the

tender grass springing out of the earth by clear

shining after rain.

God spoke to David through the Holy Spirit,

And He spoke by David to the people of Israel.

One who leads others as God leads him is as a

sunrise without clouds.

He is as the beauty of a day after the rain.

Whether he be a king, leading a nation.

A pastor leading a church.

A husband leading his family.

God honors him, and he should be held in high

esteem by those who follow him.

1 Corinthians 11 1 Be ye followers of me, even as I

also am of Christ. 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that

ye remember me in all things, and keep the

ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3 But I

would have you know, that the head of every man

is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man;

and the head of Christ is God.

All of life needs to be in godly order, with leaders

leading in godliness and followers who obey God.

10

A leader must be out in

front, showing the way.

It’s impossible to

lead from behind.

Not a boss; a leader.

You can’t lead from the bed.

5 Although my house be not so with God; yet He

hath made with me an everlasting covenant,

ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my

salvation, and all my desire, although He make it

not to grow. 6 But the sons of Belial shall be all of

them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be

taken with hands: They tear the hand.

David knew that his house wasn’t perfect, but God

had granted him grace in an eternal covenant.

David always repented; his sins broke his heart.

He didn’t feel justified in his sin.

12

7 But the man that shall touch them (the sons of

Belial – the wicked) must be fenced with iron and

the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned

with fire in the same place.

Those who hang with the wicked

will be like a man handling thorn

bushes with no protection.

In contrast to the harm that wicked men do, there

are good men who are a blessing to be with.

8 These be the names of the mighty men (warriors,

champions) whom David had: The Tachmonite that

sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same

was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against

eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.

Adino was the first of the top three champions.

These were good men -- men whom David could

depend on in times of trouble.

God gave them supernatural strength and

agility to fight against David’s enemies.

Dependability

Page 14: 2 samuel 23a spiritual warriors

9 And after him was Eleazar the son

of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the

three mighty men with David, when

they defied the Philistines that were

there gathered together to battle, and

the men of Israel were gone away: 10 He arose, and smote the Philistines

until his hand was weary, and his

hand clave unto the sword: and the

LORD wrought a great victory that

day; and the people returned after

him only to spoil.

Page 15: 2 samuel 23a spiritual warriors

15

The troops had run like

chickens, but Eleazar

stood like a rock.

He fought until his hand

froze to the sword.

10b and the LORD wrought a great victory that day;

Eleazar fought with all his might, but

The Lord gave the victory!

Page 16: 2 samuel 23a spiritual warriors

10c and the people returned after him only to spoil.

That is too often the case.During times when the battle gets tough, a lot of

people desert the battlefield,

Going somewhere easier to enjoy.

Then, when the battle is over and the victory is

won, they come back to enjoy the spoils.

The easy blessings.

So, what do we do when they come back?

1 Thessalonians 5 14 Now we exhort you, brethren,

warn them that are unruly, comfort the feeble-

minded (timid), support the weak, be patient

toward all men. 15 See that none render evil for evil

unto any man; but ever follow that which is good,

both among yourselves, and to all men.

Just as the deserters were allowed to return and

reap the spoils of the battle against the Philistines,

Welcome those back who return to the church.

Let us be as David’s mighty men :

Warriors and

Champions of Christ.

We don’t need to be strong physically, but we must

be spiritually strong in the Power of God’s Might.

We don’t fight against flesh and blood; we fight

against spiritual wickedness.

But remember:
