intailoringtreatmentsandinterventionstoeachtypeofdementia.Currentunderstandingis
thatlabelingsomeoneashaving“dementia”intheearlystagesoftheconditionisinadequate
forbestqualitycaremanagement.Thissessionisdesignedtoprovideinformationaboutthe
variousformsofdementia.Ithighlightstheimportanceofnoticingearlysignsofchangesin

engagementprogramsthatareappropriateandeffectivewhenresidentshavesomedegree
ofcognitive impairment.Thesessionwillhelpthe learnerstobetterunderstandactivities
regardingtheirskilldemandsandvaluefortheperson.Emphasiswillbeplacedonproviding
caregiverswiththeskillsneededtodeterminetheresidentsremainingskillsandinterests
andthenselectingactivitiesthatwouldpromoteinteractionandengagementwhilereducing
distressandisolation.Thesessionwillbeveryinteractiveandwillbuildobservationskills,
