2Welcome on boardOn the 25th day of 2014 we are delighted to launch our celebration of 25 years partnership between TUI UK & Ireland, TUI Travel PLC and the Family Holiday Association. As we look ahead to an exciting year, this booklet highlights some of the fantastic achievements you have made possible since 1989.
We at the Family Holiday Association are grateful to have your continued support in helping deserving children and their families enjoy what could be their first ever short break together. Over the past 25 years TUI UK & Ireland has become our most loyal and long-standing supporter, enabling many thousands of children and their struggling families to experience a much-needed, carefree few days away by the British seaside. For this, we cannot thank you enough.
The families we help are affected by long-term illness, poverty, disability, abuse or the heartache of bereavement. All are referred to us by professionals and experts in the community such as doctors, teachers, social workers, support workers and charities such as Barnardos. They, like us, believe that families in hardship deserve to experience the kind of simple short break that so many of us take for granted.
From the wonderful feedback we receive, we know how the simplest of breaks can bring a sense of hope and happiness to the children who need it most. The joy of travelling by coach or train to build a sandcastle, paddle in the sea and simply see other people smile can lift them up from their everyday cares and worries and enrich their lives for ever.
I hope you are as inspired as I am, and that youll join me in looking forward to an amazing 2014 and beyond.
Alison Rice Chair of Trustees, Family Holiday Association

41989 Our journey beginsTwenty-five years ago, the Berlin Wall came tumbling down, Kylie and Jason ruled the pop charts and Tim Berners-Lee drafted a proposal that would lead to the creation of the World Wide Web. It was also the year that the Family Holiday Association began working with the travel partners who would go on to be part of TUI UK & Ireland.
United in a common causeThe Family Holiday Association was set up by Joan and Pat Laurance in 1975. At the heart of the couples vision for a brighter future for people in hardship was the belief that spending time together away from everyday life improves the health and well-being of everyone in the family unit. It was this passion for making holiday experiences special for families, and especially children, through our shared values of teamwork, responsible leadership and caring for people that led to the Family Holiday Association and TUI UK & Ireland becoming natural fundraising partners in 1989.

82014: New horizons
In February, the charity will deliver its first monthly e-newsletter, featuring case studies of families who have benefited from our work and the first video-selfies from TUI UK & Ireland staff, our community partners and the families were helping. If youd like to take part, get in touch!
Our Thomson friends in Derbyshire will be putting their best feet forward in the 10-mile Matlock Walk this March. Its just one of the many TUI UK & Ireland fundraising events happening across the country in 2014.
And remember, its amazing what we can achieve together for those who need it most.
Theres plenty to look forward to in the year ahead. Working together, we can not only continue to make a real difference to families in need of a break we can also have great fun doing it! Look out for our monthly e-mail newsletters throughout 2014 for regular updates. In the meantime, here are a few highlights from what promises to be a very rewarding 25th anniversary year

92014: New horizons In London on 15 May, the Family Holiday Association will host a supporters reception to coincide with the United Nations Global International Day of Families. There will be a special place for TUI UK & Ireland staff at the event.
July 1989 was when the Family Holiday Association and Falcon began working together, so 25 July 2014 has been chosen as the date for our mass-participation event for all TUI UK & Ireland staff. Keep an eye out for updates on the big day
The wheels are in motion for the annual TUI Big Bike Ride in August. This year it will take place in and around Luton in Bedfordshire.
In November, more opportunities for us to work together will come from our Holidays Matter Conference, World Travel Market and, on the 26th, the British Travel Awards. TUI Travel PLC won 22 awards last year. Lets hope its more in 2014!
Finally in December, as we prepare for more great work in 2015, awards will be presented to the teams and individuals whose efforts have done so much for the Family Holiday Association over the past 25 years.

Our community partnersThe Family Holiday Association relies on referrals from professionals in the community who submit applications on behalf of families. Doing things this way means we can be sure that the money we raise goes to families who will benefit most from a short break. Many of the families we help have never left the places where they live as they are affected by problems related to disability, mental health, bereavement, domestic violence and poverty.
Feedback from our community partners shows that we really have been spreading smiles. Heres a sample

The benefits of our break were life-changingThanks to the efforts of all who raise money for the Family Holiday Association, the charity is able to give much-needed British seaside breaks to children and their families who really deserve it. Just a few days away from a painful illness, struggling to get by or day-to-day anxieties offers relief and hope for a better future. The families take home precious memories and a belief that they can overcome their difficult circumstances.

25 reasons to celebrate
3 We spread smiles to families facing daily hardship made worse by the likes of illness, bereavement and disability
4 The charitys aim is to help 2,500 families get a break this year. Lets try to make the figure even higher!
5 Our research shows that 70 per cent of families felt more optimistic about their future after their trip
6 Fundraising is a great way to get to know your colleagues better and strengthen working relationships
7 Fundraising is great fun8 We share a belief that short breaks are necessities not luxuries
9 84 per cent of families told us that their break improved their quality of life
As we applaud a remarkable 25 years of partnership, here are 25 reasons why the work we do together is so life-enhancing not just for children and their families, but for everybody involved in the process.
1 TUI UK & Ireland and the Family Holiday Association share a passionate belief that its amazing what a holiday can do
2 Our families are nominated by professionals and charities such as Barnardos and the NSPCC, meaning funds are spent on the families who need it most

11 Together we help some of the 2 million children who live in families that cannot afford a simple day trip to the seaside
12 74 per cent of families told us that they had a more positive outlook on life after their break
13 We act on research that shows a lack of holidays has an adverse effect on health and well-being, causing feelings of depression, isolation and alienation
14 Our work continues to increase awareness of the scale and scope of the problems associated with a lack of access to holidays
15 Whatever money is raised, no matter how big or small an amount, it makes a difference
16 Fundraising can be very rewarding for those who take part
17 80 per cent of families said time spent with loved ones was more enjoyable after their trip
18 Children deserve to see the seaside, and this is at the heart of everything we do
19 It is important that we continue to increase the number of families that gain access to holidays
20 77 per cent of families said they feel happier after their break
21 We believe it is vital that we continue to research and promote the value of holidays for families experiencing disadvantage
22 84 per cent of families reported improvements in family relationships after their holiday
23 Fundraising that involves physical activity is a super way to get and stay fit
24 As the charitys largest corporate supporter, TUI UK & Ireland does more than any other organisation to help the work of the Family Holiday Association
25 With your help, we can make the next 25 years even more worthwhile!

Heres to another 25 years and beyondI am delighted that TUI Travel PLC has now been working with the Family Holiday Association for 25 years. Our two organisations share the values of teamwork, responsible leadership and caring for people especially children and this makes us natural fundraising partners.
In Britain today, there are 2 million families who cannot even afford a day trip. Given that we are the worlds seventh largest economy, this is an appalling indictment on our society and explains why the work we do together to provide simple seaside breaks for disadvantaged children and their families is vital. Holidays help to make stronger, healthier, happier families which in turn contributes to a stronger, healthy, happier society that benefits everyone.
By doing all we can to raise money for the Family Holiday Association in 2014, we can ensure our 25th anniversary year is our best yet and continue to make a difference for another 25 years and beyond.
