Developing individuals
At OSS we help you develop your managers at key career stages through professionally accredited programmes, helping drive talent through your business at every stage.
New ways of thinkingOSS encourages and enables interaction between different job functions from retailers across the sector. This allows individuals to think outside of their normal work pattern, share their knowledge and inspire new ways of thinking and working.
Retail centricOSS programmes are developed by retailers, for retailers. Delegates gain exclusive insights and learn first-hand from current retail leaders and expert tutors from a diverse group of national, international and independent retailers.
Align with your internal L&DWe’ll work with you to integrate OSS with your internal Learning & Development programmes through pre-course briefings and post programme reviews.
Open & challenging environment
Delegates are encouraged to move out of their comfort zone and quickly form working relationships via small discussion groups. This approach plays to each person’s strengths and also enables them to work on their areas for development. Our programmes are fully residential, providing the delegates with the space to think and commit to their development in an open but challenging learning environment.
Support and guidanceThe discussion groups at the Foundation and Academy are mentored and guided by previous delegates in the role of Group Directors (GD). GDs are experienced retail managers from organisations across the sector who guide and support delegates through the programme.
Proven track record OSS has developed over 19,500 retailers from across the sector since its inception in 1923.
Ongoing supportIt doesn’t stop once the programme has ended. We can help with post-course reviews and encourage delegates to return as Group Directors. This enables them to continue their development and reach their potential.

Specialist and bespoke programmes

Specialist programmesOSS has a range of short programmes that focus on specific retail functions including Digital Influence and Retail Property:
Digital Influence - Transforming Retail has been developed to bridge the digital skill-set gap within retail organisations enabling them to embrace transformation. Customers use multiple channels at every stage of their research and customer journeys and organisations have to adapt at an unprecedented pace.
The Place of Retail is a new programme developed for retail and property professionals to improve collaboration and commercial viability. This innovative programme focusing on retail property is open to retailers and property professionals who wish to develop their ability to maximise profitable partnerships.
Bespoke trainingAlternatively, for retailers looking to develop their in-house learning and development, the OSS can provide a bespoke training service. The tailor-made solution will provide the knowledge and skills retail leaders and managers need to be successful.
The benefit of working with OSS on the delivery of the bespoke training for the Fenwick Group Graduate Programme:
“Having sent delegates to OSS Retail for many years and having received excellent feedback, I approached OSS to design and deliver a two day training programme concentrating on people management as part of the Fenwick Group Graduate Training Course.
We were delighted with the professional delivery and the excellent feedback received from our graduates, who awarded this training the highest score.
The OSS team took time to understand our required objectives and culture, delivering a bespoke programme which was very practical and retail focused.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the training and we are looking forward to working with OSS again this year.”
Liz Cook, Group HR Manager, Fenwick

OSS Retail programmes are not run or accredited by the University of Oxford. However, we are very proud of our long relationship with the prestigious university city. We continue to run our residential programmes at Saïd Business School, St. Hugh’s College and Keble College, Oxford.
Both the Foundation and Academy programmes are accredited by City and Guilds.
NB. In order to comply with HMRC VAT accounting requirements re. TOMS (Tour Operators
Margin Scheme), the accommodation (room only) element of the programme cost is charged
by way of a separate invoice from the appropriate college. Oxford Summer School Ltd. acts
strictly in an ‘agent only’ capacity in respect of the distribution of invoices on behalf of the
venue and the collection of payments for these invoices. The remaining programme costs are
the subject of an invoice raised by OSS Ltd. As a result, all course fees are payable in full to
OSS Ltd. by way of two separate invoices.
Course fees
As outlined in the programme information, the delegate fee quoted for each course is the total cost per person excluding VAT. The fee also includes all programme materials, equipment, food and accommodation.
