The whole world was saddened when Coretta Scott King, widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. died in a medical clinic in Mexico. What was she doing in Mexico? It's simple. Doctors in the United States had told her they could do no more for her. The clinic in Mexico
offered hope. That hope may have been an illusion, but who can blame her? We'll do anything for hope. Ask someone who has been in chronic pain and has discovered that even the finest medical professionals don't have a clue about how to stop their pain. Many of these sufferers will go to any lengths to find someone who can give them relief. Wouldn't you? The woman with chronic hemorrhage in today’s first Gospel story, comes to Jesus with trusting Faith. She has heard that this is the physician she has been looking for. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a beautiful old story about Zacchaeus, the tax collector. It tells how in later years, he rose early every morning and left his house. His wife, curious, followed him one morning. At the town well he filled a bucket... and he walked until he came to a sycamore tree. There, setting down the bucket, he began to clean away the stones, the branches, and the rubbish from around the base of the tree. Having done that, he poured water on the roots and stood there in silence, gently caressing the trunk with both of his hands. When his amazed wife came out of hiding and asked what he was doing, Zacchaeus replied simply, "This is where I found Christ." I can just imagine that for the rest of their lives, that woman who touched the tassel of Jesus' robe that day on the street... and the daughter of Jairus who was raised up in that room in her home, continually brought people back to those sacred spots and said, "This is where I found Christ! This is where Christ loved me into life!" Do you have a sacred spot like that? This is the Good News of our Christian Faith, isn't it! Love has the power to heal, to reconcile, and to redeem. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A deaf man, a blind man and a disabled man heard a rumor that God had come down to a Church in the village to heal the sick. They all went to find out if it was true. God signed to the deaf man, "Can I help you, son?" The man signed back that he would be so happy if he could hear again. God touched the man and suddenly he could hear. God then touched the blind man and he was able to see. The third man was sitting in his wheelchair with his mouth wide open in amazement. God looked at the man and asked him what he wanted. The man drew back and yelled, "Don't lay one finger on me! I'm on disability!" ------------------------------------------------------------------ One Sunday at Mass as the priest was giving his homily, a little baby in the front row suddenly started crying loudly. The mother did her best to pacify the child, but nothing worked. So finally, she got up and started to walk down the aisle to take the baby into the cry room. The priest stopped his preaching, and very compassionately called out to the mother, "That's OK! You don't have to leave. The child isn't disturbing me." The young woman turned around and said, "No, pardon me Father, but you're disturbing my child!"
From the Pastor’s Desk: Todo el mundo se entristeció cuando Core!a Sco! King,

WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED
Ques$on:
There seems to be a lot of division in some Chris"an churches over moral issues, especially abor"on, ordina"on,
and end-of-life care. If all Chris"ans follow the Gospel of Jesus, why is there such a difference of opinion?
Answer: There is always a struggle between culture and religion, and part of that struggle is poli"cs. To be
poli"cally correct means that you must embrace the secular virtue of the moment so that you are
"enlightened," "sensi"ve," "aware," and, most importantly, "open-minded." Unfortunately, common sense can
be sacrificed in the race to be "PC."
Some fac"ons within Chris"an denomina"ons have tried to redefine tradi"on, history, and biblical teaching to
bend it around the poli"cally correct religious thinking of the day. On the life issues that you men"on, there are
those who began with their own conclusions and have tried to bend theology around their conclusions. This is
possible in part because of a lack of a central teaching authority and partly because society has become
apathe"c to these issues. It will result in a lot of division, fac"ons, and schisms. The Gospel calls all believers to
embrace the truth, to turn from sin, and to seek holiness and jus"ce. No ma!er how hard some may try, a
square peg will not fit a round hole. The camel cannot fit through the eye of the needle.

A gathering of gentlemen wearing
scarlet trimmed black cassocks in the streets of Rome next to the Va"can is a rare site, especially since cardinals tend to stay in their apartments, offices, and vehicles. But in May, 2018 cardinals seemed to be all around, standing in the streets, checking their cellphones, si(ng on parked mopeds, pe(ng dogs, and lining up for lunch with bibs on. Ne)lix was filming a drama en"tled “The Pope” about the elec"on of Pope Benedict XVI in 2005, his later resigna"on, and his rela"onship with Pope Francis during the 2013 papal transi-"on. The drama is said to convey Francis’ ‘reluctance to take the top post, his humility and devo"on to the poor, and his galvanizing force for tolerance and change.’ Actor Sir Anthony Hopkins is playing Benedict and actor Jonathan Pryce is playing Francis. Mr. Pryce was said to look remarkable like Pope Francis. The gentlemen that appeared to be cardinals were actually extras, chosen, as one extra explained, because they looked the part, with their long aquiline noses, and because of their advanced age. Another extra explained that he couldn’t resist the chance to portray a cardinal, even though the pay wasn’t great. “We do it for love, a sacrifice,” he said. Among the extras were pretend: nuns, priests, Swiss Guards and journalists. Thomas Williams, a former real priest who is now a real journalist, was on hand as a script consultant and also is playing a journalist in the movie. He said he made sure that this produc"on treated Benedict fairly and “there were some things that needed changing.” Lots of people seeing the faux cardinals thought they were real. A tourist from Vancouver asked them for a photo. They hugged her why her husband took the picture. She thanked them and then asked for a blessing of her St. Christopher metal. That’s when they explained they were extras in a movie and not real, and she stopped smiling. Even Va"can officials were fooled. Real Bishop Paul Tighe walking down the street saw all the faux cardinals and he said “for a moment I tried to see if I could recognize any of them.” One extra said posing with pilgrims and occasionally giving a blessing to tourists was the least he and his friends could do. “We let them think what they want to think, it makes them happier.” “The Pope” is Netlix’s con"nuing effort to add new content to its library of series and movies. It explores the story around an extremely uncommon event, the resigna"on of a pope which hadn’t occurred in 600 years.
