Germany Expands
“The land lost will never be won back by appeals to God... but only by force of arms.”
Hitler starts rebuilding Germany's military- anything wrong with that?...(think end of WWI)
Germany starts taking over small areas around Germany (Rhineland, Sudetenland and parts of Czechoslovakia.)
1936- Axis Powers, Germany and Italy
Appeasement
Hitler keeps on violating the Treaty of Versailles, but no one tries to stop him = appeasement
Germany takes over all of Czechoslovakia and France and Great Britain do nothing.
Germany demands land from Poland, September of 1939 German tanks invade Poland.
Realizing that appeasement isn’t working France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
Hitlers March through Europe Using “blitzkrieg” or “lightning war” Germany takes
down Poland easily Spring 1940- Germany take Denmark, Norway,
Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands Germany marches through France- June 22 1940,
France surrenders. Germany quickly captures a significant part of
Europe
Helping the Allies Early 1940s- U.S. does not want to officially join
the war (Europes Problem… heard this before!) The only problem is that FDR and other gov’t
officials really do want to help out Lend-Lease Act- give the British: planes, tanks,
weapons, food anything to help them out.
