WELCOME
to the second edition of
2DAY AMBASSADOR - THE LAUDER CONFERENCE ON DIPLOMACY AND
INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS FOR HIGH SCHOOLS-BUCHAREST,
MARCH 12-14, 2013
Dear friends and partners, distinguished guests and speakers, dear students,
teachers and members of the 2Day Ambassador Organizing Committee,
Here we are now at the second edition of the 2Day Ambassador Conference
at Lauder, dedicated to promoting diplomacy and international relations studies
among all high school students in Romania and abroad.
As many of you know, Lauder-Reut students enjoy an exclusive educational
offer that is unique in preuniversity academics: accredited Diplomacy,
International Relations, Business, Media, and Communication studies. Our
Lauder-Reut students follow these studies during 3 of the 4 high school years, all
thanks to the exclusive academic partnerships that the Ronald S. Lauder
Foundation concluded upon opening the high school in 2006 – with prestigious
Romanian and foreign universities, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the
Romanian Diplomatic Institute, the Raphael Recanati International School and the
Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy in Israel, the British
Council Romania, the Lauder Business School of Vienna, the Weizmann Institute
of Science in Israel, and the Cannes Lions Romania.
Today, we pride ourselves with three graduating high school classes that
specialized in this field and discovered how fascinating it is. They want to
continue to share their experiences, the joy of study and of the exchange of
knowledge and ideas, with their peers in Romania, as well as abroad.
On the anniversary 7 years of diplomacy, international relations, and
business at Lauder-Reut High School, we wanted to create a celebratory program
that will popularize the study of these fields among all high school students.
During this second edition of the Conference, we have been thrilled with
excitement by the large support given by the Romanian highest central and local
authorities, who responded with much sympathy and effective contribution to our
idea of a high school Conference on diplomacy and international relations. For
their involvement and for the presence among us of their highest level
representatives, I would like to thank The Romanian Parliament-Deputy
Chamber-President Valeriu Zgonea, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs- Minister
Titus Corlatean and Secretary of State Bogdan Aurescu,
The Ministry of National Education-Minister Remus Pricopie, The School
Inspectorate of Bucharest-General Inspector Constantin Traistaru, The City Hall
of District 3 of Bucharest-Mayor Liviu Negoita.
2
I would also like to thank the Diplomatic Missions and Their Excellences,
the Ambassadors of The Republic of Argentina, The Republic of South Africa,
The Czech Republic, The United States of America, State of Israel, The Kingdom
of Nederland’s, The Federal Republic of Germany in in Romania, for their
extraordinary benevolence and hospitality, for welcoming our LAuder-Reut teams
of students in diplomacy and for being with us at the Conference works.
I observed with great joy how our young students from the Lauder-Reut
High School joined many talented students from Mihai Viteazul National College,
Matei Basarab National College, Al. I. Cuza High school, Dante Alighieri High
School, School no 196 “F. G. Lorca”, School no 70, School no 81, School no 84,
School no 88, School no 149, School no 195 and School no 200 in Bucharest.
We welcome them all and wish them success in this Conference that is
dedicated to them and built around the idea that early education in diplomacy,
international relations, and business is possible, and can be successful even in
high school.

THE RONALD S.
LAUDER FOUNDATION
THE LAUDER-REUT
EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX
“Our mission would be education - to learn from the past, understand the present and prepare for tomorrow.”
“I believed that even more so now the education is our greatest opportunity for the future and our greatest gift for our children. At the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation, we call children the future.”
Ronald S. Lauder, Founder and President
“[...] back in 1997, we undertook with pride and honor the Lauder mission, to revive the Jewish education here in Romania. We have started right in the place where the former Jewish school was, in the old Jewish quarter in Bucharest, died out for over 50 years of Nazism and communism. My lifetime dream was to watch over these little flowers coming and coming to our kindergarten and school, and see them blossoming in their beautiful splendor. My lifetime work and project is to ensure our little and young the best possible education, the best possible conditions, in the most professional, yet tolerant, affectionate, multicultural environment, so that they would grow up in a solid discipline of study, strengthened by self-confidence and pride to be a Lauder student.”
Tova Ben Nun, President of the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation, Romania
THE LAUDER-REUT EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX
After 15 years of existence under the patronage of the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation, the Lauder Reut Educational Complex reached great performance granted by the educational offer, on one hand, and by the individualized tutoring of its students provided by rigorously selected teachers, on the other hand.
The educational offer includes bilingual humanistic and scientific sections, baccalaureate exam in Hebrew, international projects and partnerships (Comenius, Gruntvig, and Cannes Lions), international study visits, students and teachers exchange programs with schools in Europe and Israel, business classes in English, communication, media, diplomacy, and international relations. The courses are provided and certified by prestigious academic partners from Romania and from abroad: The Romanian Diplomatic Institute – the Ministry of Foreign Affaires, The Media University, Cannes Lions Romania, the British Council, The Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, Israel, Raphael Recanati International School, Israel.
Our students succeed 100% in their baccalaureate exams with outstanding results. An impressive number of our students participate and are awarded prizes in Olympics and contests on different school subjects. But what makes the Lauder Reut school unique is the extracurricular offer, that has become a reference for the national educational system: arts and multimedia for kindergarten and primary school, business, media and diplomacy for high school, the classes and clubs of foreign languages (English, Hebrew, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Chinese), journalism, photography, informatics, arts, drama, dance, musical instrument, mathematics, chess, sports, etc.

THE INTERDISCIPLINARY CENTER (IDC) HERZLIYA
“We combine the study of theory with real-world experience. Our educational method is based on an interdisciplinary approach, information technology and openness to the international horizon. Our outlook, which is rooted in the concepts of liberty and responsibility, emphasizes initiative and leadership alongside community service.”
Prof. Uriel Reichman, President
Modeled on distinguished small colleges in the United States, The Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya was founded in 1994, being among the first private academic institutions of great significance in Israel. IDC Herzliya is a non-profit corporate entity which is not subsidized by the government and is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in education and research. Its academic approach is characterized by an interdisciplinary spirit par excellence; its organizational framework ensures its financial independence; its face is turned toward the international business community. The center's main goal is to provide professional training to Israelis in the fields of business, politics, law, and computer science, with a wide-ranging awareness of the environment of the 21st century.
The Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy
The Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy at IDC Herzliya offers undergraduate programs in Diplomacy and Strategy, Public Administration and Politics, Security and Terrorism, Middle East, and International Conflict Resolution. In addition, as of the 2007 academic year the school offers a masters degree program that allows students to choose one of two tracks: M.A. with thesis or M.A. with specializations. Students who choose the M.A. with specializations track may choose one of two areas of specializations: Diplomacy and Conflict Studies or Counter-Terrorism and Homeland Security Studies. All the programs provide students with the knowledge and skills to contribute to improving government and advancing society.
The Raphael Recanati International School (RRIS)
The Raphael Recanati International School (RRIS) was established in order to allow students from around the world to benefit from the excellent academic programs at IDC Herzliya by offering several of these programs in English. It is the only academic institution in Israel that offers undergraduate degree programs that are taught entirely in English. The school’s faculty is world-renowned having earned their degrees from the world’s finest universities with a high percentage from the Ivy League. Degrees granted by IDC Herzliya are accredited by the Israel Council for Higher Education and are recognized worldwide.
