Canons Amazing C
I am foreverfasci-
nated by how Nature repeats
herself. Like all living creatures,
flowershave their very
distinct personalitiesand
similar to making a portrait
of a person, when photo-
graphing flowers I am chal-
lenged to capture something
of their individual personali-ties, moods and gestures.
Massive Files, BetterDetailCanons new 10.1-million
pixel CMOS sensor uses technology straight
from the professional EOS-1D MarkIII. Its
totallyre-designed, reaching new levelsof light-
gathering efficiencyand low-noise performance.
The APS-Csize sensor has the same effective
lensconversion factor (1.6x) asthe previous
EOS 30D. In conjunction with the new DIGICIII
Image Processor and this new CMOSsensor,
the EOS40D images breaknew ground in total
image quality.
14-bit Depth for Greater Color RangeWith the EOS 40D, analog to digitalsignal conver-
sion isexecuted by a 14-bitprocessor (16,384
tones), which generates digital data of fine
gradation withouttonal skipping. Canons pro-
prietaryRAW and new smallRAW (sRAW) images
take full advantage of this rich 14-bitgradation
and can be processed with CanonsDigital Photo
Professional software. JPEG images with 8 bits
per color derived from 14-bitdata are provided
in four sizes (10.1MP, 8.0MP, 5.3MP or 2.5MP),
which also are available in the EOS40Ds RAW+
JPEG mode.
