SESSION’S THEME
ANCIENT ROOTS
INNOVATIVE THINKING
Type to enter text If you look through any kind of advise given to you on how to write a spectacular essays (or
the basics of essay-writing) the first element that comes across as very important, is the introduction. And,
if you have been looking in the right place, you would know that the introduction is the first step towards
a good work and, which is more, in most cases in the last paragraph that you write. Not only because itshould encompass all of your ideas and messages, but first and foremost because it is the most difficult tocome up with.
As the organising team of the 4th National Selection Conference of EYP Albania can tell you, it
is not rare that the same principles that come in so handy in the frustrating essay-writing process, may be
implemented even in everyday life situations . And this exactly how we came with the idea of the session’s
theme “Ancient roots - Innovative Thinking”. After days of planning this event, of creating that rough
guidelines of expectations and ideals, we knew what we wanted to transmit to the participants through this
display of active civic participation. It was not only about choosing that new generation of future Albanian
EYP-ers, it was mostly to convey a strong message to them all.
We knew that we wanted to focus of this session to on the current and jaded problems that the
Balkan has been going through for many and many years. Yet, at the same time discussing is not the sole
aim of a European Youth Parliament session since we gather here youngsters not only to look at the past,
but to rely in it in order for them to have a solid ground from which to start from. And you might just ask
“To start what specifically”? The answer is a little bit cliché, yet the truth it presents is by no means a
lesser one : a change for the matter. So we had it clear that if there was something include in the theme that
would serve as both an umbrella and representation of the work we had done and were about to do, that
would have to incorporate innovative thinking.
The problem was that we couldn’t leave it to just “Innovative thinking”, even merely for the fact
that it was a little bit too short and overused. And because it did not fit our purpose and ,as stated above, it
did not encompass all of our ideas. So one beautiful day, while the organisers had decided to reunited for a
cup of tea and coffee in one of the city’s many bars, the holy spirit of Imagination and Creativity decided
to illuminate our minds and give us the perfect source for an amazing theme where we found the missing
piece of our session’s resolution “Ancient Roots”. Ever heard of a “Eureka”? That was our “Eureka”!
Because you cannot deny the history behind the Balkans, the culture and problems that come with this
same history create a pool of knowledge to exploit.
Ancient Roots - Innovative Thinking is the duo we are going to use during all the session, to tryand give our little contribution to solving the problems that have been hampering the region’s development
and well-being. To forgo already used methods, learn from and avoid past mistakes and build a sustainable
future based on cooperation and multilateral understanding.

Overview of the Session
The 4th National Selection Conference of EYP Albania will be a very
special event, especially for our national committee. This time the session is
prolonged with an additional day of General Assembly in order to give
more space for discussion and debate to all the 140 delegates that are goingto be part of the session. We welcomed and selected delegates from
hundreds of applications and more than six High Schools (and even some
universities) all over Albania. Furthermore, the additional delegates coming
from Greece and Germany will add to the diversity of the session, both
cultural and academic. Hoping that this diversity will help with the solutions
each committee will come up with!

On Friday afternoon, delegates from all over Albania will have a

costumes of that country. The delegate will be notified of the country
they will represent (and a link to help them to quickly find the easiest
recipes) according to their committee. That would be a great chance

same where the EYP’s outstanding Eurovillage is going to take place.

VENUES AND ACCOMMODATION
Teambuilding
Kavalishenca (Durres) :
Teambuilding, the essential beginning of every session, will
take part in the most renown coastal city of Albania :
Durres. Close to an ever-shining sun, in the middle of the
fresh air of the sea and whiteness of the sand, is situated the
imposing building of Kavalishenca where the there is
enough space for indoor and outdoor games of every kind.
An impeccable weather and Mediterranean atmosphere will
make for an unforgettable experience.
Committee Work
European University of Tirana (EUT)
Committee Work is the time where all the research and
tactics learned the first day come into play.
Considering its importance, we decided to settle for an
academic environment that would offer the best space
and atmosphere for some tough work. The European
University of Tirana is vast, organised and will grant
you the necessary space and quietness to create the best
of resolutions.
General Assembly
The Albanian Parliament
Considering the structure and aim of the European Youth
Parliament and especially the role the GA has as the
culminating point of the whole session, we decided to stay on
tune and put all the participants in a ‘parliamentary’ mode. This
is why, the General Assembly will take place in the symbol of
Albanian democracy, when all the biggest decisions are made
and the greatest battles are fought : the Albanian Parliament.
Accommodation
For the officials and delegates that do not live in Tirana,
during the whole of the session, they will be accommodatedin Durres, at the “Kavalishenca” Hotel. A formal residence
under the Ministry of Interiors, it disposes of many roomsand a vast space for our use and commodity.

TRAVEL INFORMATION
THE VISA QUESTION
Thankfully for all of you, in order to come to Albania, you do not need a visa. Nevertheless,
considering the fact that Albania is not part of the European Union you need a passport for all types of customs.
Furthermore, for those of you who are under 18 year old, a verification for your parents will probably be required at costumes points here in Tirana.
And even though not required, it would probably be better for you to have a life/health insurance thatwill cover you for the length of your stay.
AIRPORT
Tirana disposes of only one airport “Mother Teresa Airport” located in the small village of Rinas, just
15 minutes from the capital. There are daily and direct flights to Tirana from all over Europe andthough companies like EasyJet, or RyanAir ar e not available, Malev and Austrian Airlines serve you
with cheap tickets.
Therefore, we encourage you to come by plane when possible. We will pick you up, no matter the hour and day that you will arrive.
BUS
For the officials coming from our neighbour countries, a bus-trip is cheaper and sometimes moreconvenient. Nevertheless, even for those of you who come from close distance the journey might take
up to 8 or more hours and the timings are usually ill-suited. Most buses arrive in Tirana by earlymorning or late night and we might find it difficult to find the place where the bus shall stop. This is
why, we discourage you from using such a tiresome method to reach Tirana.
Notice : Albania does not have an international railway system (actually we have no railwaysystem whatsoever), therefore it will be impossible for you to reach us this way. Your only options
are the above mentioned.
