+Why was the 5k in 5 Initiative
started?
n To meet labor needs of the industry
n EDD estimates that over the next 5 years there will be 8,000 job
opportunities in the construction industry in the greater
Sacramento area*
n 80% of these jobs will be in residential construction
*Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, and Yolo Counties
+Why was the 5k in 5 Initiative
started?
n To increase the collaboration between employers and education, training and workforce development providers to meet the workforce needs of the industry
n To increase industry visibility resulting in n Full enrollment in secondary and post-secondary training and
n More people seeking careers in construction
n To create a data collection and reporting system that will allow us to determine the degree to which participating employer labor needs are being met
