New Home Construction
Our New Home Construction program empowers families earning 30% – 80% of the HUD Area Median Income (AMI) to purchase homes with affordable mortgages. We utilize the traditional Habitat model of building homes with volunteer labor in partnership with families. Once a family is approved, they complete Sweat Equity hours and attend homebuyer education classes. Upon program completion, the family will close on their new home and begin to experience the positive impact of homeownership.

Critical Home Repair (CHR)
Critical Home Repair provides major repairs at affordable repayment terms, allowing homeowners to age in place while meeting the urgent need of preserving the existing affordable housing stock in our community. Habitat Charlotte identifies all health and safety needs in the home, with projects often including extensive roofing and flooring damage, as well as repairs to plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems and accessibility upgrades.
What began as a casual conversation in 1991 has grown into an international movement of women empowering women through affordable housing. To date, nearly 3,000 homes have been constructed by all-female crews in the U.S. and 30 foreign countries...and it all started right here in Charlotte! (May – July)
Women Build
Veterans Build not only provides homeownership or home repair for veterans, it provides opportunities for military-trained men and women to use their skills in the community. These veterans have served our country faithfully; it is now our privilege to serve them.

Habitat Charlotte’s Playhouse Program is a fun and meaningful way to work side-by-side with teams of volunteers in constructing and painting children’s playhouses that are then donated to local Habitat families. Sponsorship for this program supports other construction projects throughout our community.
