There will be NO Pastoral Reflections from Fr. Bill while he recovers from his surgery. Please keep him in your daily thoughts and prayers.

Thank you!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I would like to encourage those who attend St. Turibius on a regular basis to consider registering on our Parish Data Base.

This is important for the following reasons.

First of all, we would like to be able to keep you informed about the activities of our parish. This could be anything, including

special Masses and events during the year. Having a current list of those who regularly attend St. Turibius is the first step.

Secondly, there may be emergencies such as severe weather or other disasters when we would have to send out an email blast or

a group telephone call alerting people to these events.

Finally, being on our data base helps our parish staff know you. This is true when you would ask for a letter from the parish

confirming that you do indeed attend St. Turibius.

There are a few ways to register. You can do this on line. The instructions are in this bulletin and there are copies of the

instructions in the back of church and in the parish office.

You can also come to the parish office and we can help you register on line.

I hope you take the time to be part of our Parish Data Base. ALL INFORMATION IN OUR PARISH DATA BASE IS KEPT

CONFIDENTIAL.

New Catholic School Scholarship Opportunity for 2018/19 School Year

Through the “Invest in Kids Act,” the state of Illinois has created a new way to fund scholarships for children from

low-income households who want to attend private schools. This program provides an opportunity for more students to

receive a quality Catholic education. The tax credit scholarships offered through this program could cover up to 100 percent of tuition and fees for eligible, low-income

students. Not all families will be eligible for the new scholarships, but we want to make sure all

families are aware of the program.

Program details are still being finalized, but you can find information on the scholarships, the application process

and the “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ) on the Archdiocese of Chicago’s website, archchicago.org/tcs.

If you have any questions about tax credit scholarships, please contact the Archdiocese at

[email protected] or 312.534.5321.

ST VINCENT DE PAULFOOD OF THE MONTH CLUB

It’s January in Chicago, and the Holy Season of Lent is only a month away. As in every other household in our Parish, we are stocking up on the necessary items to make tasty food selections that comply with our Lenten regulations.

Consequently we are asking for your help with donations of the following items.

CANS OF TUNA FISH

Please folks, check your donations and make sure that the dates are not expired, as we are unable to use expired

products.

Your donations can be placed in the box located in the vestibule of the church when you come to Mass, or they

can be taken to the Rectory during normal business hours.

Please take this opportunity to help all the needy families in our parish. Thank you for your donations and may God

Bless You for your generosity.

“St. Turibius Pride” St. Turibius Parish is still selling fleece jackets, polo

shirts, t-shirts and hoodies with our new Parish Logo. Order forms are in the back of church or stop by the

rectory to place your order.

What a wonderful way to show your “St. Turibius Pride” as our Parish Family

celebrated our “90th Anniversary” last year.

We replaced the Church rug and had major work done on our Church organ before the holidays.

This fundraiser hopefully will defray some of the cost.

Thank you for your continuous support!

The Demand’s of DiscipleshipToday we encounter readings that already have a Lenten feel about them. Nineveh undergoes a forty-day fast, the psalmist

reminds us that God alone can show sinners the way, Paul shows us how fleeting the things and events of this world are, and Jesus cries out “Repent!” before he calls his new followers. “Come after me,” Jesus says, but if we are to truly live out the commands and demands of our discipleship through baptism, we must first know our need for conversion, our repentance, our need to believe in the gospel fully. Today’s Gospel opens with the stark reminder of what befell John the Baptist for completely living out his vocation

as the herald of Christ and the gospel: he was arrested, imprisoned, and martyred. Though few of us will experience

consequences that extreme, we must all be ready to risk some sort of rejection as, heeding the call of Jesus, we live out the

kingdom of God at hand, repent of our sins, and believe in the good news of salvation.

Parish Mission Statement

We Believe that God is Love, and when we live in love we live in God and God lives in

us! Therefore we, the Parish Family of Saint Turibius, dedicate ourselves to living out

Christ’s Great Commandment: we will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength, and we will show our love for God

by the way we love and care for one another. To this end, we will respond to our baptismal

call, strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and empowered by

the Holy Spirit. As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifts God has given to us, we will share our time, our talent

and our treasure with each other. We welcome into our parish family all people, because we

believe that together we are the Body of Christ and together we can bring the love, peace,

forgiveness, healing, and joy of Christ into our community in ways we never could have if we were to remain apart. May all who meet us, who worship with us, who work and play with

us, know we are Christians by our love!
