Exhaust gas heaters for
heat recovery from flue gases and directly fired
heater
Heat recovery from flue gases by using the AB Heatec exhaust gas heater AKV
Because of its technical design the exhaust gas heater can be cleaned easily. It is
installed in the flue gas stack of the main diesel engine. The design of the heating surface
consists of coaxially wound coils in which thermo oil circulates and to which the heat of
the flue gas is transferred. The design usually allows for the entire heat demand, for
genera) service and crew accommodation, to be provided.
Directly fired auxiliary AB Heatec heater KV/H for regulating the fluctuations
in heat requirements
When the main diesel engine does not operate (e.g. in the harbour) or when it is
necessary to heat the cargo a directly fired heater with light or heavy oil burner can be
used as a supplement to the flue gas heating. The auxiliary heater may be installed in
serial or in parallel connection depending upon the specific requirements. The plant
operation is in either case fully automatic.

requirements of the shipping industry, for example: stress-free-tube suspension and
special multi tube design for vibration and pulsating operation. Because of our long

on many river and oceangoing ships.
For supplying heating requirements on ships,
thermo oil . heating systems are becoming more
and more commonplace. The reasons for this
development are that thermo oil, compared to
steam, offers many advantages. Because of its
technical and economical qualities as a heat
carrier it is often preferred to steam.

Investment costs and operation costs below the average
Experience proves that the investment- cost for a AB Heatec thermal oil plant are
25 % less than the costs for a steam plant. The energy recovery from the flue
gases is up to 12 %.

Manufacturing
In order to be able to meet the quality
levels required by our clients and us, the
core components of the AB Heatec plants
are manufactured in Germany by our
factory.
For the manufacturing of large
components, we dispose of production
facilities with a surface of 2,500 m2 and
cranes with an ultimate load of 25 t per
unit. Our machine park is specialised on
the cold forming of tubes up to a nominal
diameter of DN 250 as well as on the
machining of metal sheets up to a
thickness of 25 mm.
