9. EXPLANATION OF THE CHANGE:
Current national standards for Computer Science curricula require coverage of many core
knowledge areas that reflect contemporary opportunities and challenges of Information
Technology, such as tools, libraries, and skills required to write cutting-edge software, as well as
the programming strategies needed that address multi-core parallelism.
The changes we are requesting in this form are needed to bring our computer science curriculum
to the current standards. We have attached a table to detail the core knowledge areas for each
course, based on curricula recommendations provided by the Association for Computing
Machinery, available at http://www.acm.org/education/curricula-recommendations. (See Table 1)
Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accreditation, which is a goal for
the BS program in Computer Science, requires a curriculum design that allows us to assess the
student learning outcomes in a continuous manner. We also attached a table to detail how the
required courses are used for the program's continuous improvement, according to the student
outcomes identified by ABET. (See Table 2)

Education for Professional Nursing Practice;
meet the 2013 amended Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Standards
for Accreditation that went into effect January 2014; and
align with the AACN 2013 Recommended Baccalaureate Competencies and Guidelines for
Public Health Nursing (a supplement to the AACN Essentials).
