Midtown Alliance City Tour
Friday 17/06/2016 1500 - 1630, Arts Center MARTA Station
General description: Midtown Alliance, a non-profit membership organization, has been the driving force behind the revitalization of Midtown, Atlanta. Guided by a visionary master plan – Blueprint Midtown – and in partnership with the Midtown Improvement District, Midtown has become a model for urban excellence. Creating and maintaining such a vibrant district doesn’t happen on its own. It’s a full-time job, requiring the right mix of programs and capital projects to generate results today – while attracting continued investment to bring our community’s long-term vision to life. Our latest initiatives related to bicycle infrastructure, ecological sustainability and visual identity, combined with our existing programs have kept Midtown at the forefront of planning discourse in the southeast. Itinerary: The tour will begin at the Arts Center MARTA station and flow up to Woodruff Arts Center. It will include an overview of Midtown and the planning efforts of the Midtown Alliance. We will then walk down Peachtree Street, the spine of Atlanta, stopping to look at various capital projects undertaken by Midtown Alliance including intersection upgrades, temporary pocket parks, and transportation improvements. We will note private development projects and how the plan and supporting zoning codes influenced the development and discuss the opportunities and challenges with urban retail. The Midtown portion of the tour will end at the Midtown MARTA station.
