What is this access point?
Access point is a device which provides wirelessaccess to a wired network.
How does it work?
When it is attached to a network, access pointstarts to transmit signals. Using this transmission,computers or devices with wireless capabilities canhave wireless access to wired networks that theaccess point is attached to.
What it is not?
Access points do not have the capabilities of arouter therefore in order to connect to Internet westill need modems or routers. So when you connectto Internet via public wireless network in a largeplace, you'll most likely be connecting to an accesspoint to do so since the range of a possible wirelessrouter will not be sufficient.
Anything else to know?
Some access points have repeater function.Repeater, as the name suggests, receives thesignal sent from the wireless router andboosts it. when placed at a point wheresignal strength is really low, it will enhancethe signal thus increasing the coverage area.
