•They built canoes to hunt and fish
• They were conquered by the Spanish in the 1500’s
B is for Bison
•Height: 6-6.5 feet at the shoulderLength: 10-12.5 feetWeight: 900-2,000 lbs. Males are larger than females.Lifespan: 18-22 years in the wild; over 30 years in captivity.
•They provided food, clothing, and skin to make teepees
C is for Creek
• The Creeks are original residents of the American southeast, particularly Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and North Carolina
D is for Dry Farming
•Dry farming uses tiny dams and canals to direct water to crops
E is for Anasazi Empires
•The Anasazi built their Empires into the side of cliffs
•And the Empires are still in the four corner states
F is for Food
•The Native Americans mainly ate vegetables and meat
•They ate the three sister crops which are maize, squash, and beans
G is for Native American Gods
•They believed in animal spirits
• They also believed in sacrifice
H is for Homes
•They had to use the environment to build their houses
•The houses were designed for the environment
I is for Iroquis
•They built longhouses and called themselves the Hodenosaunee
•They also played lacrosse

•The Navajo were mainly the first people to use jewelry
•Some were used for trading with the Spanish

•Native Americans used throwing knives to fight in their battles
•They also used knives for hunting animals

•Some tribes played lacrosse to settle arguments
•The ball is made of leather and stuffed with hair

•They were very violent

•The Navajo lived in hogans
•Navajo means planted fields
O is for Olmec
•They lived around the southern Gulf Coast of Mexico
•The Olmecs had a large fishing industry
P is for Pueblo
•Pueblo means town in Spanish
•The Pueblo performed deer dance celebrations
Q is for Quivers
•Native Americans used quivers to hold arrows •They made quivers out of animal hide
R is for Native American Rights
•It is often called ‘NARF’ for Native American rights fund
•The Native American rights movement prioritized demands to have the U.S. government honor treaty obligations it made with various sovereign Native American nations.

•United States Signs The First Indian Treaty That includes provisions for federal funding of Indian education in exchange for tribal land.
T is for Trail of Tears
•About 4,000 people died
•It means Nunna daul Isunyi in Cherokee
U is for Urban Legends
•Some legends include Attack of the Mammoth, Fire, and Coyote and the Columbia
V is for Village
•Each village was home to about 400-500 people•Each family had two homes. One in the summer village and one in the winter village
W is for Woods
•They used the woods to hunt
•They could use the trees for weapons and canoes
X is for Xylophone
•It was a source of music
•They used them at ceremonies
Y is for Youth
•After the Indian Removal Act the youth could not practice their traditions•The youth started to forget their traditions
Z is for Zodiac
•The Native Americans believed in Zodiac Signs
•Some include deer,beavers,and falcons
