Two Ten Footwear Foundation 2014 Annual Gala
Gala Chair’s MessageKen C. Hicks
For 75 years, Two Ten Footwear Foundation has made a tremendous impact on the shoe community it has served. Born out of the hardship of the Great Depres-sion, Two Ten became a beacon for many shoe people out of work and suffering hard times. Today, more than seven decades later, Two Ten continues its mission of uniting shoe people to help other shoe people in need.
Tonight, I am honored and privileged to celebrate this important milestone in Two Ten’s rich history with our wonderful partners and friends within the shoe industry. As many of you know, an intrinsic part of Foot Locker’s core values is our deep commitment to the communities we are a part of and serve. It is
incredibly rewarding to acknowledge our meaningful and long-standing partnership with Two Ten, an orga-nization who shares our strong passions and dedication to helping those less fortunate or in need within the footwear industry.
Whether empowering young men and women through its extraordinary scholarship program or helping others get back on their feet due to personal crisis or natural disasters, we are proud to support Two Ten’s important efforts and are committed to investing in its continued growth.
This evening’s theme, “It’s a Shoe Thing,” not only supports the very livelihood of our joint businesses, but the premise that behind every shoe is a significant and moving story. We are proud to share some of those powerful stories with you tonight from our colleagues and partners who have been personally affected by Two Ten’s tireless efforts. We hope you are as inspired as we are by their outstanding work.
On behalf of Foot Locker Foundation, Inc. and Two Ten, thank you for your generosity and support. Please join me in celebrating 75 years of greatness…Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Ken C. HicksAnnual Gala Chair, 2014Executive Chairman of the BoardFoot Locker, Inc.

President’s MessageNeal Newman
He grabbed my hand. Tight. Urgent, like his next breath depended on it.
I had noticed him earlier during my lunchtime talk, and now I was standing in the middle of a pulsing hotel lobby, worried about missing my flight home, with a man who had something important to say.
“A few years ago my life was falling apart. I lost my job. I was drinking. My wife was ill. I was staring right into the abyss. So I called Two Ten for help and completely broke down while talking to one of your social workers on the phone. She kept saying to me, “It’s OK. I under-
stand, it’s OK.” And I would cry some more. I felt like such a failure after I lost my job and then Jane got sick...”
The man began to sob uncontrollably. Trembling. A few moments passed. I waved off the concerned concierge. I asked the man if he wanted to sit. He finally gathered himself and continued. “Two days later your social worker called me. She said Two Ten was able to cover the next three months of our rent and she also had a few local charities and churches I could get more help from, including a 12-step program.”
Then came a moment I will remember for the rest of my life. He whispered, “I never told anyone this before. Two Ten changed my life. I wouldn’t be here today, I wouldn’t be married still, I wouldn’t be alive, if you hadn’t helped us... if people hadn’t been kind to us when I was down on my knees in the dark. Thank you. God bless you.”
And with that, he let go of my hand, turned and walked away. Two Ten helped change that man’s life—only because you helped make that possible through your generosity and support.
And so has Tim O’Donovan, our Bob Campbell Lifetime Achievement Award winner and Two Ten’s north star for 25 years. A true philanthropist, Tim embodies the remarkable spirit of compassion and camaraderie that first compelled a handful of Depression-era shoepeople in Boston to put their hands in their pockets and help one of their own.
Tonight, we’re celebrating 75 years of an entire industry that has come together with purpose to take care of our own... to help change one life at a time. Our hearts share the same code. It’s a shoe thing. If the time ever comes when you’re on your knees staring into the black, remember – shoepeople help shoepeople.
And that is worth celebrating. Have a wonderful evening.

Two Ten Footwear Foundation 2014 Annual Gala
Chairman’s MessageBlake Krueger
Tonight, we come together to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Two Ten and the Foundation’s mission — “Shoepeople helping Shoepeople.” This is a significant milestone and I’m so pleased that you are all here to support the great work done by this Foundation. The footwear industry is unlike any other — just look around the room. We are a community that aligns to take care of our own and your pres-ence here tonight is a testament to this generosity.
We should all feel proud of what we accomplish together, when we unite around a common cause. As community and business leaders, I am proud of what all of
you have done for Two Ten and our industry – as well as for your generous support tonight. When you support Two Ten, you are likely helping somebody or someone’s family that is only an office or two away. Your generous support tonight will ensure that our Foundation can continue to help shoepeople when the unexpected happens to them. Two Ten is often the last safety net for many in our industry.
As part of Two Ten’s 75th anniversary and long-standing tradition of recognizing extraordinary leadership, philanthropic spirit and commitment to the Foundation, tonight we will recognize Tim O’Donovan with the prestigious Bob Campbell Lifetime Achievement Award. Tim has repeatedly demonstrated his chari-table, civic and public service to the footwear community and has been the recipient of Two Ten’s highest honors, the A.A. Bloom Memorial Award (1995) and T. Kenyon Holly Memorial Award (2004) – both awards signifying outstanding humanitarian achievements. Please join me in congratulating Tim on this special evening.
On behalf of Two Ten’s Board of Directors and management team, I would like to thank you for your generosity and participation in this evening’s festivities. I hope you have a wonderful evening!

The T. Kenyon Holly Memorial Award, Two Ten’s highest honor for outstanding humanitarian achievement, is presented to an individual in the footwear, leather or allied industries who exemplifies the spirit and character of the late T. Kenyon Holly, past president of Two Ten. Mr. Holly was an individual who was dedicated to helping the less fortunate members of our industry and one who worked quietly, effectively, and wholeheartedly in his philan-thropic, civic, and church affairs. The award is not given to a leader merely for his prestige or accomplishment in the commercial world. Rather, it is for his/her charitable, civic, and public service to his community and nation.

Tim O’Donovan
Two Ten honors Tim O’Donovan, retired Chairman and CEO of Wolverine Worldwide, with the Bob Campbell Lifetime Achievement Award.
“It’s incredibly fitting that during our 75th anniversary year, we celebrate Tim O’Donovan’s love of the footwear industry, the people who work in it and his longstanding commitment to Two Ten,” said Neal Newman, President of Two Ten Footwear Foundation.
O’Donovan actively served on the Two Ten Board for 23 years, including two years as its Chairman, and currently serves as the tri-chair of its Honorary Board. He has repeatedly
demonstrated his charitable, civic and public service to the footwear community and has been the recipient of Two Ten’s highest honors, the A.A. Bloom Memorial Award (1995) and T. Kenyon Holly Memorial Award (2004) – both awards recognizing Tim’s outstanding humanitarian achievements. In 2009, the Tim and Karen O’Donovan Endow-ment Fund was established to provide financial assistance to footwear employees in times of need.
“Everyone at Two Ten and all across our industry appreciates Tim’s generosity to our people, to our industry and to our industry’s charitable foundation. In my book, there’s no finer individual, and no one more deserving of this recog-nition,” remarked Bob Campbell, Chairman and CEO of BBC International.
Bob Campbell Lifetime Achievement AwardPresented every five years, The Bob Campbell Lifetime Achievement Award honors an individual whose great leader-ship and philanthropic accomplishments have made a difference to the success of Two Ten Footwear Foundation and America’s footwear community. Established in 2009 by the Two Ten Footwear Foundation Board of Directors, the first recipient of this award was its namesake, Bob Campbell, Chairman and CEO of BBC International.

Ellison SocietyThe Ellison Society is named for the late Bill Ellison, a long-time Two Ten trustee who became the Foundation’s most generous benefactor through a very substantial gift in his will. The Society carries on Bill’s strongly held belief in the importance of estate planning to ensure Two Ten’s ability to meet its charitable obligations for generations to come by recognizing individuals who create a permanent legacy in our industry by including Two Ten in their estate plans. We are thankful to the many families who have shared their legacies with the footwear community.

Aside from leaving a long-lasting gift to Two Ten and the families we help, the additional benefits of estate planning include significant reductions in gift and estate taxes. All realized bequests are transferred to Two Ten’s Endowment Fund. For more information contact Kate Kaplan, Director of Development at [email protected] or 781-736-1500.

The first Footwear Cares launched and brought an industry together to give back
18
Entering its third year, Footwear Cares is one of Two Ten’s fast growing community building events. Designed to bring an entire industry together around a common goal, Footwear Cares provides one month full of volunteer opportunitites for shoepeople to give back to the communities in which they live and work.
2014 Footwear Cares® Month Highlights • 517,549 meals were made available to vulnerable populations. • 12,000 pairs of new shoes and outfits were distributed to children. • Over 20 environmental projects were completed to enhance our coastlines, nature trails, community parks and recreation facilities. • 15,000 hours of volunteer time worked to offset more than $330,000 in collective operational costs for non-profits.
Why is giving back important?Participating in Footwear Cares provides an opportunity for people who work within the industry to come to-gether in a way that will forever change lives; their own and the lives of the people they touched. When you give back, you can really see the impact that you have on other people. Join us in April 2015 as we come together as an industry to do it again - even better.
