“The worship of Mammon (money) . . . has become
many people's life purpose. I think it is very natural
that many other people will not be satisfied . . . will
seek some meaning for their lives so that when
Christianity falls into their lives, they will seize it very
tightly.” Professor He Guanghu

Be a Christian hedonist (Pursue pleasure) Objections
1. Does the Bible really teach that you should pursue your joy with all
your heart and mind and soul and strength.
2. What about self-denial? Didn't Jesus say, "If anyone would come
after me, let him deny himself?"
3. Doesn't this put too much emphasis on emotion? Isn't Christianity
essentially a matter of the will, whereby we make commitments and
decisions?
4. What becomes of the noble concept of serving God as a duty when
it's hard and you don't feel like it?
5. Doesn't this just put me--and not God--at the centre of things?
“Whatever you do, whether you eat or whether you drink, do everything to the glory of God.“
Worship and the glory of God
1. Does the Bible really teach that you should pursue your joy?
a) With commandments. (Psalm 37:4, Philippians 4:4)
"Delight yourself in the Lord."
"Rejoice in the Lord, and again I say, rejoice."
b) By Threats (Deuteronomy 28:47)
"Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joyfulness and gladness of
heart, therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against
you."
c) By presenting saving faith as essentially being satisfied with all that
God is for you in Jesus. (Hebrews 11:6)
"Without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who would draw near to
God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him."

“Be appalled at this, you heavens, and shudder with great horror,’ declares the
Lord.
‘My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of
living water,
and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water”.
