WARNINGAPOLLO recommends a hose for normal service as outlined in this catalog. Other applications please contact your local APOLLO representative.
In any application there may be an inherent risk of bodily injury or property damage and the user is responsible for implementation of adequate safety precautions. It is the responsibility of the buyer to advise the user of proper instructions for safe use and/or precautions and to warn the user of consequences of failure to heed such instruction. Should a hose assembly fail during use with pressure, injurious and/or damaging chemicals, elevated temperature conveyants, explosives or flammable materials, then death, serious bodily injury, or destruction of property could result from impelled couplings, whipping hose, high pressure or high velocity discharge, chemical contact, explosion or fire.
In known high risk applications, it is recommended that hose inspections be performed at frequent intervals, proportionate to the risk factor. Hose with obvious damage should be scrapped or tested before placing in use. These inspections should include tube condition, cover condition, leaking or slipped couplings and hydrostatic test at one and a half times working pressure.
If there is any doubt at all concerning a specific application, please contact your local APOLLO representative.

HOSE CONSTRUCTIONAPOLLOFLEX composite hose is constructed of multiple layers of polypropylene films and fabrics, reinforced with inner and outer spiral wire helix’s. A polar fluid resistant barrier layer is an integral part of the hose construction. The inner wire helix is either galvanized steel, polypropylene-covered steel, or stainless steel, depending on application. The outer wire is usually high tensile galvanized carbon steel. Stainless steel outer wire is also available. The outer cover is weather and abrasion-resistant PVC-impregnated polyester fabric. This construction results in a light and very flexible hose capable of a wide range of services.
END FITTINGSAPOLLOFLEX hoses use an external swage method of attaching end fittings. See page 12 for details. Apollo has U.S. Coast Guard-certified welders and factory trained technicians.
TYPE APPROVALSAPOLLOFLEX heavy duty marine hoses have been tested or meet the requirements of the following regulatory bodies. Inquire for further details.
UNITED STATES COAST GUARD IMO LLOYD’S REGISTER OF SHIPPING DET NORSKE VERITAS NETHERLANDS SHIPPING INSPECTION NIPPON KAIJI KYOKAI
TEST CERTIFICATESEvery APOLLOFLEX heavy duty marine hose is individually hydrostatically pressure tested prior to shipment at one and a half times its working pressure, uniquely serialized and delivered with its own test certificate.
ELECTRICAL CONTINUITYBoth inner and outer wires are connected to each end and tested for electrical continuity before shipping. (Electrically Continuous)
TEMPERATURE RANGEDepending on conveyant, APOLLOFLEX hose is suitable for use between -22°F (-30°C) and 212°F (100°C). LPG and LNG hoses are available with working temperatures as low as -320.8°F.

PRODUCT APPLICATION
APOLLOFLEX hoses are engineered from the inner wire to the color PVC-impregnated cover for maximum service life and product transfer compatibility. The inner wire provides structural support and crush resistance. The multiple layers of polypropylene films and fabrics, provide resistance to chemical attack while providing axial and tensile strength. The PVC-coated jacket and stripe denotes corporate identification. The outer wire provides the structural integrity of our hose and the externally swaged on hose fittings achieve the perfect union.
The result is a lighter weight, more flexible, and easier handling hose compared to Rubber or Metal hoses. That provides exceptional service life and performance, and are suitable for full vacuum service.
Service Applications Include:
SHIP to SHIP transfer (Lightering) of Petroleum, Chemical or LNG.
SHIP to SHORE transfer of Petroleum, Chemical Products.
PETROLEUM and or CHEMICAL REFINERY, Tank Truck, Rail Car,
in-plant, and other industrial applications.

APOLLOFLEX Hose are manufactured to the highest technical standards to meet the most exacting service conditions. To maximize the service life of these quality hoses, we recommend that you follow these simple guidelines.
HOSE HANDLING GUIDE
NEVER use hose unsupported
NEVER support hose with a single rope or rope slings
NEVER allow hose to drop between ship and dock
NEVER over bend hose
ALWAYS support the hose at appropriate points with hosebuns or slings
ALWAYS | support the hose near manifold connections
ALWAYS protect hose against sharp edges (e.g. dock edge, ships guard rail, etc.)
ALWAYS store hose in straight line raised off the ground, preferably in a cool dark area

Inspection, testing and cleaning of APOLLOFLEX Composite Hoses
VISUAL INSPECTION - Check hoses before each operation and before conducting hydrostatic testing.
Visual inspection should include at a minimum the following items:
Dents (collapsed or crushed places) or kinks in hose.
Breaks in the outer helix wire.
Displacement of inner or outer helix wire from normal pitch.
Displacement of end fitting and/or signs of fitting leakage.
Wear or damage to end fitting.
Chemical attack, deterioration, and/or physical damage to the outer cover (carcass).
Note: Moderate abrasion to the outer cover is acceptable if reinforcing fabrics below the cover are undamaged.
CAUTION: Hoses with significant defects should be retired from service.
HYDROSTATICALLY PRESSURE TEST - Annually testing or more frequently …
Hoses should be tested as follows or per USCG Regulations if applicable.
Drain and thoroughly clean hose per recommended procedure.
Test electrical continuity per recommended procedure (Electrically Continuous).
Visually inspect hoses per recommended procedure. Lay hose straight out on supports or on roller beds that allow free movement under pressure.
Blank off ends. Fill hose completely with water. Make sure trapped air is released by slightly raising one end.
Pressurize assembly to 1-1/2 times the maximum working pressure.
Hold this pressure and examine for leaks.
Test electrical continuity while under pressure (it should be identical as the un-pressurized hose reading)
Release pressure – carefully! Then Drain Hose.
Test electrical continuity upon completion of pressure test.
NOTE: Composite hoses elongate under pressure; elongation under pressure is not an indication of hose condition or failure of reinforcements.
CAUTION: DO NOT test hoses that failed visual inspection
HOSE TESTING
APOLLOFLEX
1717
ELECTRICAL CONTINUITY TEST - Every 6 months or more frequently to check electrical continuity:
Lay hose flat on the ground.
Check electrical continuity with a continuity tester or with an ohm meter (resistance should be 10 ohms or less).
CLEANING - After use or prolonged storage, or before testing.
Appropriate cleaning method depends on use and location.
Thoroughly drain acid conveyants, or other reactive conveyants, before cleaning to avoid exothermic reactions.
Electrically ground hose during cleaning to avoid static build-up especially in the presence of flammable liquids or vapors.
Flush with fluids like fresh or sea water, hot water, detergents, common solvents at ambient temperatures.
Drain thoroughly after flushing, especially if sea water is used, to minimize inner wire and fitting corrosion; or any chemical cleaning fluids/solvents to avoid any chemical reactions when hose is put back into service.
Steam or Compressed air may be used to clean hoses.
Hoses must be open-ended (no restrictions).
Lay hose out flat and straight.
DO NOT exceed maximum working temperature to avoid damage to hose carcass.
HOSE REPAIRS - Consult your local Apollo Sales Office or Representative.
Depending upon overall condition and life it may be possible to repair hoses damaged in service. The repair of composite hoses requires specialized knowledge and procedures.
NOTE: All repairs should be undertaken only by trained and authorized personnel.
