BPC Clerks Report for Meeting 20.11.18
WW1 Commemorations
The WW1 Commemorations on Sunday the 11th November was a fantastic success, with reports of up to 1,000 people attending the Remembrance Service. The Village Hall was full with locals listening to the Bembridge Band and enjoying the refreshments on offer. Thank you to Rev Amanda Bloor and the Village Partnership for organising the event, to the Village Hall for its use, are local ‘nurses’ for welcoming everyone into the hall, the WI ladies for all the teas and coffees they served, to the Bembridge Band for entertaining everyone and everyone who supplied cakes. Thank you to all those who knitted or crocheted the amazing poppies that hang around the Village, they brought the War Memorial Gardens to life for the Commemorations. War Memorial Restoration The War Memorial Restoration project is now completed. The Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust plaques and the ‘Ghostly Tommy’ have been installed. Thanks to the Russell Page, the Parish Lengthsmen, the Village Partnership and the Bembridge Weeders.
WAVE SCULPTURE
The mural painted on the wall looking out to see by local Artist Verena Sparrow celebrating costal arts has been completed. The installation of the Wave Sculpture should be completed before the end of the year. Then associated planting from the Coastal Gardener with the assistance of the local Beavers will take place and the introduction of a new interpretive sign board explaining the project.
ENTRY SIGNS Bembridge Village Partnership have been working on new village entry signs designed by Ken Orchard which are now in place on the Embankment Road and Sandown Road.
CPR and Defibrillator Training The CPR and Defibrillator Awareness Workshops on the 20th October were a great success, so we will be looking to hold another event in the Spring. Bembridge Parish Council would support overall the PSPO proposals but would not support the restrictions of preventing Horse riding on the beaches. Horse riders are vulnerable road users and there are few Bridleways that link up in Bembridge. The beach offers safe riding. Improvements to the junction of Station Road and Kings Road - Recommendations For Full Council IWC/Island Roads have presented Bembridge PC with two options for the improvements to the junction of Kings Road and Station Road. To see the full plans for both options presented by Island Roads see maps appended to end of this report. Island Roads will expect the Parish Council to meet the costs of the initial capital works and on-going maintenance charges to the end of the PFI contract.
