APPLICATION LETTER
a document sent with your resume to provide additional information on your skills and experience
An application letter typically provides:
detailed information (on why are you are
qualified for the job you are applying
for).
Effective application letters explain:
the reasons for your interest in the specific
organization
identify your most relevant skills or
experiences.
An application letter is a formal
letter (so there are rules about how
the greeting and the goodbye should
be written).
If you use the person’s name, for
example, Dear Santa Claus, you
must use, Yours sincerely, followed
by your name in the end of it.
If you do not know the person’s
name and you write Dear Sir or
Madam, then you should end the
letter, Yours faithfully, followed by
your name
WRITING AN APPLICATION LETTER SHOULD INCLUDE:
Name the job that applying for and where you found out about it
Some information about yourself (mention why your skills and experience are a good fit for the job)
State the times when you will be available for an interview
CURRICULUM VITAE It is a personal history, showing the skills and
experience you have achieved in your life.
It is a selling document, advertising you to the prospective employers.
SO.......CV is your sales brochure and its purpose is to persuade an employer to interview you for a job.
CV MUST BE:
Brief 1 page preferably Easy to read Use the same font and
same size font throughout.
Use bold type or CAPITALS to highlight different sections.
Understandable AVOID abbreviations Positive Make sure you mention your
achievements both academic and extra curricular.
Relevant skills and experience MUST BE relevant.
CV CONSISTS OF:
Personal Details: name, sex, place and date of birth, religion, status, home address
Educational Background: put your most recent education first.
Working Experience: put your most recent work
experience first. Skill achievement Certificate
