followed suit riding his KTM250SX-F in the Daytona Supercross East Lites event,
placing second. Canidae MotoSport Kawasaki’s Brandon Jesseman piloted his
KX250F to second place on the New Orleans podium with GEICO Powersports

Between his stints as an extreme rider, Hollywood stunt man, host of the TV show “Superbikes” and more, Jason Britton is one very
busy guy. He’s also very particular about how he sets up his Kawasaki ZX600RR to accomplish a dazzling assortment of tricks.

Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ricky Dietrich successfully
dominated the third round of the 2009 WORCS series held
at Lake Havasu, AZ, on March 20-22, piloting his Dunlop-
shod KX450R to the top step of the pro class podium. With
this win, Dietrich has now won two of the three rounds run
and is in second overall in the series points standings.
Fellow Dunlop racers, Johnny Campbell Racing’s Tim
Weigand, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Damon Huffman,
and Vali Motorsports Bobby Bonds and Bobby Garrison,
were among the top 10 finishers at Lake Havasu. With
seven rounds remaining, Dunlop riders occupy six of the
top 10 spots in the championship.

Daytona Bike Week 2009 introduced vast changes
to the American roadracing scene, as new classes,
new rules and the naming of Dunlop as the series’
official motorcycle tire supplier made their official
debut. At the same time, some things at Daytona
International Speedway never change: The banked
oval portions of this gargantuan track produce
huge demands on tires purpose-built for Daytona
alone, with loads and speeds surpassing any other
venue in the world.
Despite these tall hurdles, from a tire standpoint Daytona 2009 emerged
as a complete success as the Dunlop slick tires mounted on the
American Superbikes and the DOT-legal treaded Dunlop GP-A tires for
the Daytona SportBike, SuperSport and Moto-GT classes all withstood
their new trial by fire in exemplary fashion, adding to the close racing
found throughout the week.
The week’s racing posed extraordinary challenges, but Dunlop’s
superlative technology and extensive engineering experience carried the
day at Daytona.
DAYTONA UNDER THE LIGHTS

Now that the history-setting 2009 Daytona
Bike Week is complete, we asked Dunlop’s
Senior Road Race Manager in the USA, Jim
Allen, to give us his expert eye’s opinion of
how Dunlop’s new responsibilities as official
tire supplier meshed with the harsh realities
of racing at Daytona International Speedway.
“As most race fans know, Daytona is a unique situation; with-
out a doubt it is the fastest, toughest racetrack in the world.
But this year, Daytona was pretty exciting and a very good
learning experience to a large extent. We were very, very
happy with the way Daytona went this year. Essentially, all of
our races were trouble-free. The comments from the competi-
tors were very good from a standpoint of both durability and
performance.
“For example, in the Daytona SportBike class Jason DiSalvo
finished third and he used one front tire for the whole 200
miles. He was excited because it saved him a lot of time in
the pits and we were really pleased because it indicated the
product had good durability and good performance.
“All in all, it was truly the most trouble-free Daytona race
we’ve ever had. By trouble I mean keeping people happy and
making sure the quantities were adequate to supply the job.
So we were really happy with our Daytona results.”

The 2009 Daytona 200 was held at Daytona International
Speedway on March 6, and 2008 Supersport Champion Ben
Bostrom decisively won the prestigious Daytona race.
Bostrom qualified fastest aboard Yamaha’s YZF-R6, and will
go down in history as the rider to win the first-ever nighttime
Daytona 200 race.
Amidst a race filled with action, drama, safety cars and more,
Bostrom had a lot of things both go his way and go against
him—in the end the champion racer reigned supreme.
“It’s always an awesome feeling to win at Daytona. It’s an
amazing track and an amazing race, and to finally be on top
at one of the biggest races of the year is the best! It actually
feels a lot like deja vue from last year after winning the
Supersport race in Daytona. There were a lot of crazy things
going down in that race and at times I wasn’t sure where I
was—but I had a lot of confidence because I knew I had a
great bike, running on great tires and to take the checkered
flag first sure feels great!

DAYTONA SXSUPERCROSS EXCITEMENT OUTDOORS

ONCE A YEAR, THE SUPERCROSSSERIES MIXES THINGS UP BY TAKINGALL THE EXCITEMENT OF INDOORRACING ACTION OUTDOORS.
The Daytona Supercross is by far the most unique event on the
Supercross calendar. Distinctively, Supercross takes center stage
before hundreds of thousands of fans by delivering exhilarating
racing action within the confines of large indoor sports stadiums.
But once a year, the Supercross series mixes things up by taking all
the excitement of indoor racing action to the outdoors—specifically,
to the infield of the giant-sized Daytona International Speedway
racetrack. Every year, the carefully designed, tough, sandy track
brings a distinctively different Supercross look compared to all
other races in the series, mixing long, high-speed straights with
notoriously big jumps—equaling fast, exciting racing action.

Following soon after the season opener of AMA
road racing at Daytona International Speedway, the
second round of races held at Auto Club Speedway
in Fontana, CA, on March 21-22 signaled the
second beginning of the series in a very real way.
The high-speed expanses of DIS require special
tires unique to that track, so this second race at
Fontana saw the debut of Dunlop’s Buffalo, NY,
made GP-A tire that will be used at the remaining
track venues in 2009.
Produced in Dunlop’s Buffalo plant, the GP-A
debuted in the Daytona SportBike and SuperSport
classes. These are the same tires available to the
public, and the racers gave them a workout at
Fontana with lots of close racing. As per series rules,
the Superbike class continued to run on slick tires.
Mat Mladin took double Superbike wins on his
Rockstar/Makita Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000,
Danny Eslick made history by giving Buell its
first national wins, taking both Daytona SportBike
victories on his Bruce Rossmeyer’s/RMR GEICO
Powersports Buell 1125R, and Kawasaki Ninja
ZX-6R rider Dustin Dominguez took the
SuperSport victory.

An equally enthusiastic group of fans gathered
around the Supermoto action held the same week-
end at Auto Club Speedway, where a recently un-
retired Jeff Ward captured the checkers in the
450/Premier main aboard his Troy Lee Designs/Red
Bull Honda CRF450R. Matt Burton won the
250/Lites race, piloting his MDK KTM, while in the
Unlimited class, Kurt Nicoll nabbed the win with his
Jagermeister KTM.

The 2009 Team Dunlop rider lineup was introduced at the
Lake Whitney Spring Classic on March 10, and this year’s
squad of elite amateur racers emerged ready to further the
Team Dunlop legacy. The 18-rider squad came together at the
first major national amateur race of the year, enjoying a wel-
coming dinner at WB Ranch, followed by the team’s annual
photo shoot.
Team Dunlop members Adam Cianciarulo and Mark Worth,
now in their second season with Team Dunlop, were successful
in putting Dunlop on the top step of the podium—winning the
team’s first titles for the 2009 season. Cianciarulo rode his Dun-
lop-shod KX100 to first place in Super Mini (12-15) and Mark
Worth followed suit by winning the Jr. Mini (9-11) title. Team
Dunlop racers scored a combined total of 12 podium finishes—
two title wins, five seconds and five third-place finishes.
Now in its third consecutive year, the Team Dunlop amateur
support program brings together some of the most talented
racers in the amateur ranks and provides them with special
tire support and preferred-treatment service at select races

Dunlop racers made an outstanding showing at the
opening 2009 ITP/Yamaha Quadcross Series and AMA
ATV Motocross Championship series rounds at Glen
Helen Raceway, CA. In Quadcross action, Can-Am pilot
Jeremie Warnia lead the Dunlop charge and pulled off a
double win in both Open Pro and 450 Pro Production
classes. Fellow Can-Am rider Josh Fredericks captured
the runner-up spot and Yamaha pilot Romain Couprie
took third to give Dunlop the Open Pro podium sweep.
Couprie went on to also finish third in the 450 Pro
Production class—with four of the top 10 riders racing on
Dunlop Quadmax Sport radial tires. Dillon Zimmerman
pushed his Can-Am to the top step of the 450 Production
Expert class podium, and Honda racer Adrienne Cooper
was runner-up in the 450 Production Intermediate class.
