AROUND AD 550,THERE WAS A INCREASE OF TEMPLES IN INDIA.THESE TEMPLES WERE BUILT IN DIFFERENT STYLES ACCORDING TO THEIR REGION
THEY ARE CLASSIFIED INTO :•NORTH INDIAN OR THE
NAGARA STYLE.• SOUTH INDIAN OR
DRAVIDIAN STYLE.•DECCANNI OR VESARA
STYLE.
GARBHAGRIHA
The garbhagriha was the inner chamber where the idol was placed. It was a place where People could pray privately.
Temples also had a passage way to go around the garbhagriha called the pradikshina. Above the garbhagriha, the shikara tapered upwards

The nagara style temples had some distinctive
features. The garbhagriha was always square. The shikara had a crowning
element –the amalaka,a huge stone ribbed disc.
Above the amalaka was the water jug or kalasa

By 10th and 11th centuries it was well established, with the finest example in Orissa, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The central Indian temples were different from the nagara temples. The main features of central indian temples is that they have 2 amalaka, one on top of the other
The kalasa placed above the smaller amalaka. The best example for it is the KHAJURAHO.
