WHEN SPECIFYING PRODUCTS WE
CONSIDER THESE FACTORS:
• Patient Safety/Infection Control
• Operational Efficiency
• Integration of Technology
• Adaptability/Resiliency/Flexibility
• Healthy Sustainable Buildings
• Human Experience Through Evidence Based Design

ACOUSTICS
3
Noise and the Healing Environment
4
WHAT IS ACOUSTICAL TRANSMISSION?
Acoustic transmission is the transmission of sounds through and between materials, including air, wall, floors and musical instruments.
Construction of the flooring/ceiling assembly indicates how noise will fill the space. Noise level is influenced by subfloor system, insulation and building products.

IIC (Impact Insulation Class)
Sound Performance
6
INDUSTRY STANDARDS
• STC (Sound Transfer Class): airborne sound like television, music, appliances, etc. Flooring has little impact on STC testing (ASTM E90/E413). The floor assembly and the amount of ceiling insulation have the biggest impact on STC.
• IIC (Impact Insulation Class): impact sound such as footsteps, chairs, door slams, etc. Most relevant to flooring and most common test. IIC (ASTM E492/E989) is the rating that measures how much impact sound from a floor above transfer to the room below. The International Building Code sets a minimum score at 50.

pH and RH
Is there a correlation between RH and pH?
◼ High pH does correlate to moisture. But not in
a one to one ratio.
◼ As moisture levels rise, pH will rise as well but
not at the same rate.
17
pH and RH
What is RH / Relative Humidity?
◼ The measurement of moisture present in a slab as tested per the ASTM 2170.
18
Relative Humidity (RH)
19
pH
What is pH?
◼ The quantitative measure of the acidity or basicity of a liquid solution as tested per the ASTM F710.
◼ ~translates to the concentration value of hydrogen ions.
▪ Scale measured from 0 – 14.
▪ 7- representing neutral
▪ Below 7 = an acidic solution
▪ Above 7 = a basic solution

pH
So if we move from a pH of 7.0 to a pH of 10.0, what is the
severity of that increase?

Shaw 9125
Shaw 9125: 2-part epoxy moisture mitigation system.
◼ No RH or pH testing required.
◼ Specified up to 100% RH and 14 pH
◼ Requires concrete pores to be exposed to a CPS 2-3 finish. Either by grinding or bead blasting.

WET CLEANING
36
• Always thoroughly dust mop before wet cleaning• Neutral pH cleaners designed for resilient vinyl floors are
recommended for daily use• Follow cleaning manufacturer’s instructions for damp
mopping or use of auto scrubbing equipment • Re-soiling can occur if dilution ratios are too
concentrated• Cleaning floor every 6 months with warm water only is
recommended
