A REMINDER ABOUT CAR PARKING
This is a reminder that we are not allowed to park in the hospital car
park next to the Ashwood centre.
Also the entrance road to the car park at the rear of the Ashwood building
needs to be kept clear as this access is required for emergency vehicles.
PLEASE comply with these requests and where possible use Morrisons’
car park, it is free for 3 hours. Thank you

FRIENDLY GARDENERS.
In August, we ordered another sunny day and set off to Roundhay Park in Leeds.
We met the head gardener who showed us around and
explained their exhibits at Chelsea.
We had lunch and headed to the lakeside, either on foot or by tram, for an
ice-cream. Well worth a visit.
On 19th September we shall visit Wentworth Castle Gardens.

CLASSICAL MUSIC 1
Classical Music Group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 2.00pm in the homes of members.
The meetings are relaxed and very informative and we explore a wide variety of music and subjects relative.
An additional member would be made very welcome.
Would anyone with a love of classical music, who is interested, please contact Nona Sheriston – acting co-ordinator ( [email protected] )
Would members please inform the host if you cannot attend a meeting.
CLASSICAL MUSIC 2 Our group is growing as we continue our meetings on the first Monday in the month, or the second if that’s a bank holiday. The Activities Room at Ashwood Centre is the ideal space for our number, usually around 16, and we continue our journey through the composers from A to Z. Our programme for the rest of the year is:- September - Members’ Choice
October - Saint-Saens to Sullivan November - Tchaikovsky to Zipoli December - Members’ Choice
Many of the composers led amazing lives, often just as dramatic as an opera
plot. So when it comes to delving into the inspiration or events that resulted in some of the works, there are plenty of surprises. All of which can give added enjoyment to the music itself. Our range is wide, as illustrated by the July programme which was the letter M: from the 17th century Venetian Alessandro Marcello to 20th century Glenn Miller -yes, really!

No Refunds Policy Your committee have reluctantly decided that when tickets are ordered they must be paid for, unless
advised differently, and if you find you cannot attend the event you have bought the ticket for, it is up to you to sell that ticket on, and no refund will be given by U3A, unless there is a waiting list in operation. This is because some events have run at a loss due to people suddenly cancelling and expecting their money to be refunded. After all, if you book seats at the theatre, or a bus trip and found you couldn’t
attend, you would lose your money, and, regrettably, we must have a similar arrangement.

For the rest of year we’re watching and discussing DVDs of

Threads and Fibres
Wednesday 21st September
The threads and fibres group will be starting a new project in September . We are making silk scarves using wax resist as a method of decoration. This will probably take the September and October meeting before we move into our Christmas project.
This is a bit of an experimental project and will not involve much - if any - sewing.
If you would like to join or re-join the group we meet at 10 am in the Ashwood centre. Please contact me for details of what you need to bring with you.
In September I will have to collect £5 towards the rent from those who have not already paid. There will also be a small charge to cover the cost of silk, wax and dye.
