Operating the recycler is a one man job, with theheating controls, feed rate, mixing speed and blend-ing rate all operated from the rear curb side controlpanel.
The diesel engine provides power for all systems. Thepre-heat hopper is loaded and the burner switches setto On. The thermostat for the kettle is set to the de-sired temperature. Feed rate controls are adjusted toaccommodate the desired material temperature. Nofurther steps are required to operate the machineother than to monitor the operation and make minoradjustments to the feed rates as needed.
How It WorksThe recycler is completely self contained and its por-table design allows the machine to be transported be-tween job sites. The PT-SRM20 is equipped with two(2) 6000 lb. axles, electric brakes, and DOT approved
lighting for safe and easy transporting. Once on site ittakes only a few minutes to lower the four (4) landinggear legs to stabilize the unit for operation.
Millings are loaded into the 10 foot wide preheat hop-per (charging bin) using a skidsteer or bucket loader.The steel screen prevents oversize pieces from enter-ing the pre-heat hopper while acceptable size materialpasses directly into the pre-heat hopper.
The feed auger speed is easily adjusted from thedigital display on the control panel. A faster feed rateis set when producing cold patch, while a slower feedrate is used when recycling.
Hot mix discharges from the rear of the recycler tothe conveyor allowing your asphalt to be convenientlyloaded to your dump truck or hot box. The off-loadconveyor is 14’ long and can reach a height of 126"making it easy to load your larger triaxle dump truckswith recycled hot mix or cold patch.

Heating of the mixing chamber uses 4 diesel redBeckett burners. The burners use an indirect heat pro-cess which conducts heat through the mixing chamberwalls. This prevents the ames from contacting theRAP material providing a signicant reduction of bluesmoke emissions. This indirect heating also yields ex-cellent retention of essential tar oils resulting in higherquality recycled hot mix.
The Tack/Additive Kettle is located on the rear leftside of the recycler. It has a 120 US Gal (454 Liters)capacity and is heated by a Beckett burner. A safetyloading shoot allows meltable materials to be safelyloaded without splash back.
The burner fres into a ue tube submerged at thebottom of the kettle. The material temperature is con-trolled by a thermostat that can be set from 0 - 550°F(-18 - 288C). The temperature is visible on an LCD
display on the control panel.
A hydraulically driven pump pumps the heated ma-terial into the mixing chamber at a controlled rate. Thepumping rate is adjustable and can be monitored onan LCD digital display at the control panel. The pumphas the ability to circulate the heated material withinthe kettle for quicker heat up times and is designedto purge material from the pump and plumbing linesprior to shut down. A ush tank allows solvent to bepumped through the system for clean out.
Components
Power is supplied by aturbo-charged 44.5 hp, 4cylinder liquid cooled diesel
engine. The engine drivesa hydraulic pump operatingthe feed auger, both mixers,the kettle pump and convey-er. The hydraulic systemconsists of the reservoir,lter, pump, bidirectionalcontrols, ow controls, drivemotors, magnetic tach pick-ups and digital displays.
Fuel is supplied to the engine and 6 burners from a60 gallon onboard fuel tank. Each burner and theengine has its own fuel pump and lter. These in-dependent fuel systems allow easier troubleshoot-
ing and redundancy of the heating system. In mostcases malfunction of one burner will not adverselyeffect operation of the machine.
The Chassis of the PT-SRM20 is constructed of heavyduty rectangular tubing. The running gear consists oftandem axles with electric brakes and leaf spring sus-pension. DOT approved lighting and a 3” pintle ringhitch are included. Four landing gear legs (one at eachcorner) are used to stabilize the unit during operation.The empty weight of the recycler is 12,900.LBS (5,851.Kg)

The Heating/Mixing Chambers are equipped witha pugmill for mixing and blending. Each pugmill isdriven by a separate hydraulic motor. The speed of
each pugmill is adjustable and can be monitored onseparate LCD digital displays. The heating/mixingchambers are positioned end to end. The rst (for -ward) chamber heats dries and pulverizes the as-phalt millings or raw aggregate.
The mix then moves to the second (rear) chamber. Inthe second chamber additive is added and blendedand the mix is further heated to the desired tempera-ture. The mixing chamber liners are replaceable, asare the paddles on the pugmill. Both the liners andthe pugmill paddles are constructed of long life wearresistant AR ¼” plate steel.

ADDITIVES FOR RECYCLING
When recycling RAP materials experts sug-
gest the use of a rejuvenator to improve bindingproperties. Several options are available.
Performance Grade Asphalts such as McAs-phalt Industries’s Beram Rap Rejuvenator™ is ameltable PG 58-28 asphalt delivered on palletsand conveniently packaged in plastic wrapped25Lb blocks.
Modifers such as Sunoco’s Hydrolene™, Exxon-Mobil’s Polybilt 101™ and Engineered AdditivesLLC’ Astech PER™ reduce the amount of heatrequired to attain full compaction while greatlyimproving the workability of the hot mix. Thisis accomplished while utilizing a small quantity ofadditive. Customers report excellent results withsome of these products.
Virgin HMA Production requires the use of PGasphalt. Performance Grade Asphalt is gener-ally sold in bulk and is best sourced in your localarea. Look for a PG asphalt with a high ‘penetra-tion’. This will yield HMA that is softer and easierto work with when hand raking. Work with yourlocal liquid asphalt supplier for their recommen-dation.
Pelletized Asphalt by Nitech Corp is used forboth virgin HMA production and recycling. Nitechhas a patented process for manufacturing asphaltpellets to precise PG specifcations, allowing theasphalt to be stored in properly sized super sacksand providing even dispersion throughout thebatch. Additionally, this is anideal product for military and other rapid deploy-
ment uses.
The Conveyer Belt is built with a hinged centerpoint allowing it to folded up for transport. An elec-tric winch raises and lowers the conveyer to the de-
sired height. Two safety chains secure the conveyerinto position. The conveyer belt is specially designedto withstand the temperature of the hot mix. The beltis 16 inches wide with 2 inch high cleats spaced ev-ery 9 inches, allowing mix to be carried up a steepincline.
