How is a Writing Grade Decided?
Writing is assessed across 3 categories with equal weighting :
Writing ideas fluently – spell quickly and accurately in legible, speedy handwriting
Forming and communicating ideas which are organised for the reader
Write creatively using standard English
The importance of spelling
Pupil unable to be awarded secure band 3 (meeting national expectations) because he/she has not met the spelling expectations

• Apply the same standard of writing in all subjects and homework
• Explain their vocabulary, punctuation choices and the effect of the grammar technique used
• Explain why they have spelt a word in context of a spelling rule

CompositionUsing a range skills to understand the meaning of texts, organisation, language as well as being able to compare and contrast texts
Word ReadingSpeedy working out of the pronunciation of unfamiliar printed words and speed recognition of familiar words
