LEXINGTON — DanvilleHigh School took first placewhile Boyle County HighSchool placed sixth in theKentucky High SchoolSpeech League’s BluegrassRegional speech tourna-ment held Saturday at Lex-ington’s Lafayette HighSchool.

In the 35-county Blue-grass Region, Danvilleplaced first by a wide mar-gin, with Lexington Dunbartaking second, LexingtonLafayette landing third, Lex-ington Henry Clay earningfourth, Lexington TatesCreek getting fifth and BoyleCounty placing sixth in theteam sweepstakes.

Students competed in 12speech categories to qualifyfor the March 23-24 statespeech tournament and forregional champion and run-ner-up medals. Danvillequalified 36 entries for state;Boyle advanced nine.

Sarabeth Marlowe andLaurel Payne led the Speak-ing Admirals with dual re-gional championships.Marlowe placed first inbroadcast announcing anddramatic interpretation,while Payne won first in po-etry and storytelling.

DHS took five additionalchampionships: MadelineSalinas in declamation; JoeWeston in extemporaneousspeaking; Drew Lane in hu-morous interpretation; NateJohnson in impromptuspeaking; and Andrew McK-inney in original oratory.Regional runners up in-cluded Boyle’s MollieLafavers in dramatic inter-pretation and Danville’sTaylor Hesselbach in broad-cast announcing, EmmaJackson in declamation,Jack Graham in humorousinterpretation, Nate John-son in original oratory, Is-abelle Ballard in prose, andWright Williams in story-

telling. Advancing to state from

Boyle County are CassidyWheeler and Jacob Gad-berry in broadcast an-nouncing; Mollie Lafaversand Kaylee Johnson in dra-matic interpretation; TalhaMuhammad and CarterGrimes in extemporaneousspeaking; Katie Followelland Alex Draut in prose;and Sydney Johnson in sto-rytelling.
