Pregame Discussion• Calgary comes off of a huge 38-10 victory against the Alouettes
where they showed very few flaws. • There are some bitter feelings between Calgary and Toronto due
to the defections of Brandon Isaacs and Defensive Co-ordinator Chris Jones
• Toronto swept last years season series 2-0 by a combined 4 points
• Toronto comes off of a 19-15 losing effort against the Eskimos where their offensive line took the lines share of the post game criticism.
When Calgary Passes• Drew Tate and Kevin Glenn passed for a combined 338 yards against the
Alouettes last week but only generated 1 touchdown through the air. • Nik Lewis was the only receiver to break the century mark, but Calgary
spread the ball out to 8 receivers.• Calgary’s offensive line was good in terms of QB protection only allowing 1
sack• Toronto’s defence was sharp against Stephen Jyles allowing 236 yards
through the air and picking up one interception.
Advantage
When Calgary Rushes• Jon Cornish was held in check by the Als defense as he failed to average
over 5 yards per carry in yardage. However the Stamps only gave Cornish the ball 18 times
• LaMarcus Coker makes his season debut, last year he rushed for a 9.8 yard average on 24 attempts
• Toronto held Edmonton running backs Hugh Charles and Calvin McCarty to a combined 56 yards but did give up 1 touchdown on the ground
Advantage
When Toronto Passes• Ricky Ray struggled in the first half but gathered steam in the second half• Ray did a good job of distributing the ball as he hit 8 receivers • Ray continues to game plan around the short pass and hopes that his
game breakers in Owens and Durie will carry the mail• Toronto’s Offensive Line struggled giving up 3 sacks on Ray• Calgary Safety Eric Frasier joins the team at safety replacing Keenan
Macdougall who returned a fumble for a 63 yard touchdown• Calgary stifled the Alouettes passing game holding them to 174 yards and
generating 2 key picks
Advantage
When Toronto Runs• Toronto struggled to run the ball with Cory Boyd gaining 48 yards on 8
carries and Ray gaining 34 yards on 3 carries• The Stampeders held the Alouettes to 39 yards on 12 carries• The Stampeder’s front 7 looked more comfortable in their standardized
defensive formations• Calgary’s front 7 combined for 13 tackles
Advantage
Special Teams• Larry Taylor had a combined 132 yards on 8 return situation. He averaged 27.5 yards on 2
Kickoff returns and 12.8 yards on 6 punt returns• Rene Parades was 3 for 3 on field goals with his longest being 38 yards. Rob Maver had a
48.8 yard average on 4 punts with his longest being 63 yards• Calgary held Montreal to a 19.6 yard average on 7 kickoff returns, and allowed a 15 yard
average on 3 punt returns• Chad Owens returned 4 kickoffs for an average of 27.8 yards, Chad Kackert returned 2 Kickoff
with a 32 Yard average. On Punt returns Chad Owens returned all 7 punts for a 15 yard average
• Noel Prefontaine was 1 for 1 in field goals from 47 yards. He punted 8 times for a 45 yard average with his longest being 61 yards
• Toronto held Edmonton to a 22 yard average on 2 kickoff returns and a 4 yard average on 5 punt returns
Advantage
Intangibles• It’s the Argonauts home opener, Temperature and humidity usually equal
a sharp disadvantage to the visiting team who doesn’t practice in those conditions
• There is an emotional element due to the Stamps anger at the recruiting of Brandon Isaacs and Chris Jones
• There is a rivalry between John Hufnagel and Jim Barker going back to their time working together in Calgary
• Calgary was upset twice by the Argonauts last year costing them first place in the Western Division
