Autumn ArtIn the UK, 30th November is recognised as St. Andrew’s Day. Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland. It is a day to celebrate all things Scottish.
Christians believe that Saint Andrew was born between AD 5 and AD 10. He was a fisherman and it is thought that he eventually became one of Jesus’ 12 disciples.
Create a Saint Andrew fish-themed tessellation using the instructions on the next page. Read these first before drawing your fish template in the box below. Cut out the template and use it to make your tessellation. Decorate your finished picture using autumn colours.

Fish-Themed Tessellation Instructions
Equipmentpaper/card size 7.5cm x 7.5cm (card produces a more durable template)
pen
sticky tape
scissors
A3 sheet of white paper (portrait will create a better effect)
colouring pens/pencils
Instructions1. Using the small card or paper, draw the side profile of a fish’s
face, finishing the line at the very bottom. It will help if you begin your line as close to the top centre of the paper square as possible.
2. Cut down the line and keep both pieces. Move the piece of paper that you have just cut off to the opposite end and line it up with the top and bottom edges of the card/paper. This piece now becomes the tail.
3. To keep both pieces in place, add a piece of sticky tape to the back of the template.
4. Take a piece of plain A3 paper (portrait) and, ensuring that the tail is on the left-hand side, line up the top edge of the fish template with the top left corner of the paper. Draw around the template carefully.
5. Once you’ve drawn the first fish, move the template to the right, lining it up with the top edge of the paper and previous drawing. Continue to the very end of the page, even if the last drawing doesn’t completely fit.
6. Add fish features to each outline, keeping the detail simple so you can replicate it as accurately as possible on every individual fish picture. They must all look alike for the tessellation effect to work.
7. Once you’ve created one line of images, turn the template over

so the fish faces the opposite way and repeat the steps above, going back in the other direction.
8. The third row should then mirror the first row. Continue to the bottom. However, you may trim down the page if the last row doesn’t show the entire height of the fish template.
9. Colour your finished piece using autumn colours, such as red, gold, orange, yellow and brown.

Harvest SongIn Britain, Harvest Festival is usually celebrated near the end of September. Some people sing songs, pray and sometimes go to church. Food is often collected in baskets to give to people in need.
Write a Harvest Festival song, suitable for younger children, which helps to explain what it is all about.
Your musical creation must have at least two verses and a chorus. The tune could be a well-known song or nursery rhyme. Perhaps you could perform the finished piece to your given audience and ask for feedback.

Diwali Spot the Difference Diwali is a very important religious celebration that takes place every year. Although it is traditionally celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs, it can also be celebrated by people from other religions. The specific date of Diwali varies but it takes place between the months of October and November each year.
Diwali is the ‘festival of light’. During the celebration of Diwali, many homes light lots of special diya lamps. The traditional story of Rama and Sita is told, which helps people to remember that light triumphs over dark and good triumphs over evil.
These Diwali pictures might look the same, but there are ten differences. Can you find them all?

Remembrance Day Reflection
At 11am on 11th November, a two-minute silence is observed throughout the country. This is the time and date when hostilities formally came to an end after four years of fighting during the First World War. It is a time for reflection.
The Sunday nearest to 11th November is known as Remembrance Sunday. People remember past wars and the soldiers who fought and died in them.
Create a PowerPoint of images which could be viewed while the two-minute silence takes place. Include enough images to last for the full two minutes. You might also like to include some poetry or thought provoking questions within your presentation.
Plan your ideas below:
