PRESIDENT’S REPORT Well another season done and once again across the board our season was quite again a successful one with our Juniors making three grand finals with our U10’s getting the chocolates, State League making all play offs and three grand finals including that epic game three of the 1st Grade grand final series that went eighteen innings but alas no premierships this year for Baulko. Our Women’s Division missed out on the play offs under very controversial circumstances but acquitted themselves well throughout the season with such a young and talented group of players. Once again the PCBL boys had great seasons with our beloved Treasurer walking away with premierships in both the winter and summer competitions. I would like to thank those that assisted in the running of the Club throughout the season in particular our scorers, coaches, canteen staff, groundsman as without your help we would not be able to function. To all the players I cannot thank you enough for keeping this club at the top of the tree year in year out, and as we continue to build we hope to see you all back next season to continue the ride. A big thank you to our sponsors as without you guys on board and your generous support once again it would make life difficult for the Club to function, we hope to see you all back again next season. Once again we had some outstanding individual efforts throughout the season that I would like to recognise:
NSWWBL Golden Arm --- Laura Eisenhauer U18 Pitching Award --- James Boree U18 Batting Award --- Jo Stevens 2nd Grade MVP --- Tim Wakefield 2nd Grade Pitching Award ---Tom Roberts State League Rookie Of The Year --- Matty Martinson 1st Grade MVP and Lionel Harris Medal --- Frank Vilacha
To Trent Schmutter undoubtedly one of the best ever outfielders to pull on a Baulko uniform, on behalf of the Club I thank you for the twelve seasons and wonderful memories on and off the field you gave us. We wish you and Paige the very, very best in your future endeavours. In conclusion there are many challenges ahead for the Club as it comes to terms with the continuing handover to Parramatta Council but more importantly the governance being put around sporting bodies like ours by the Australian Sports Commission to meet their obligations. Times have certainly changed.

TREASURER’S REPORT Based on Gross Income of $93,437.47 (last year $90,849.07) & Expenses of $95,758.70 (last year $81,471.88), the club made a net loss of $(2,321.23), (last year profit of $9,377.19). The main reason for the loss is the increased expenditure on Junior uniforms and equipment which we do claim back from this club. The Club is in a sound financial position with the support of Bankstown Sports Club. We have received Grants for Junior expenditure of $30,154.83 this year compared to $18,100.27 last year. Due to the strong continuing financial support by Bankstown Sports, I would like to emphasise how important it is that all members of this club (players and parents) are members of Baulkham Hills Sports Club. The cash position at 30th April 2017 was $17,335.10. As of 30th April 2016 it was $20,806.33.. Paul Rodionov Treasurer

This season saw another successful club performance with U/18’s, 2nd Grade and 1st Grade all making the Grand Final with 3rd Grade missing out the previous week in the Finals. The 1st grade team saw 21 individuals play within the first grade roster. The 2nd grade team saw 32 individuals play within the 2nd grade roster. The 3rd grade team saw 34 individuals play within the 3rd grade roster. On a club note many thanks go out to the coaching staff of all grades, scorers and management for their tireless voluntary work and many hours that they placed with their players in making them better players. The upcoming season will be here before you know it so have a safe and healthy off season and see you on the field for the 2017/18 season Darian Lindsay Director of Coaching

2016-2017 47th Annual Report

When we look at the above record the above paraphrases reflect how a team needed to be not only players but guys that were prepared to back each other and be there for the support that was required across the board. A team off the field that went above and beyond to make this season work and give us a chance to be there in March. I had previously mentioned that this club has turned over quite a large number of players that have gone onto represent states, countries, minor and major league affiliations and in my time over the past 4 – 5 years have never seen a team playing for Baulkham Hills quite like this one not for their talent but for the way they, no other way to explain it “had each other backs” It’s hard to sit here and write about this particular ball club and praise individuals when this team every single player needs recognising as it took a team to do what we achieved so to you guys it was an absolute pleasure to be a part of what we achieved, be a part of what we had not only on the field but off the field. But in saying that there are always individual accolades and it wouldn’t be fare if those guys weren’t mentioned. Once again our direction in bringing younger guys to the fore front saw Matt Martinson winning League Rookie of the Year. Frank Villacha winning the prestigious Lionel Harris Medal for MVP of the State League. Team wise as mentioned I could continue to praise and write pages and pages about every individual in how they impacted the team during the regular season and the play offs. I hope that you can sit back and say that you gave it everything you had and enjoyed what we have achieved on field but especially what was formed off the field and thus for that you are all champions. Unfortunately it comes a time when players get to a age and age develops relationships, marriage, aching bodies, sore arms and time just sais let’s call it a day. I think in all my time from club, state, Australia, Australian baseball league and the New York Mets I have never seen an outfielder that makes playing his position seem so easy the way he moves across the outfield was a pleasure to watch so to you Trent Schmutter I wish you the best outside of baseball as you will be difficult to replace and may never be replaced I’m sure whatever you do you will always be successful.

With another successful season done and dusted we again have to ponder what could and should have been. With the emergence of a super star and some old heads leading the way the 2016-17 will be remembered as a season of washouts and lost opportunity's. The second grade team got off to a very poor start but went on a 7 game winning streak to again make another grand final. The team battled through positional changes and commitment issues to be again known as the happy boys. The team bond was at its finest all year and with the support of the lower grades achieved almost the highest honour. After six weeks off due to bad weather the boys were eventually out played on the big day going down to Ryde 4-0 in the GF but we can all say it was a success with the 2 highest league awards going to 2 members of this awesome group with Tom Roberts named as pitcher of the year with an 11-0 record and Tim Wakefield being named league MVP. 2 grand final loses in a row doesn't sit well with me as a coach but am super proud of this group and we will be back to battle as hard as ever next year and am sure we will be even better and harder to beat. On behalf on the entire coaching staff, I'd also like to thank all our scorers for their efforts throughout the season. Without you ladies we wouldn't have a game. Andrew Sands

But that's what grade baseball is all about. After losing our opening game, we had a emphatic record of 11-2-2 which went down to the last game of the season. If we win that game, we become minor premiers. But the baseball Gods were not on our side that weekend as it was a washout and the first place Ryde had the bye. The rain continued for about 3 weeks straight as it likes to everytime post season is upon us. The 1v2 semi final was rained out which saw Ryde advance to the GF. Although the 3v4 semi was played which saw MacArthur win that game. We were then to face MacArthur but had another week off due to the rain. We eventually met without our boys not seeing any baseball for 3 weeks but were beaten by a better team on the day. We had an impressive team ERA of 3.46 and a team batting average of .324 To have fallen one game short of the GF is still a remarkable effort from all the boys and my fellow coach by my side Troy Keane. Without him by my side, this would not have been at all possible. With a lot of youth in our squad and numerous under 18's players that will be going into grade next season, it's all looking up for our club next season. Aaron Zammit

Players player: Jack Dormor Although this year didn't finish the way we set out fellas it was a great year and one of the most exciting I have had in 20 years of baseball. Being the favourite throughout the league early on in the season is never easy to deal with. 2016/2017 saw a number of players representing their states (11 in total) and Liam Holm and Rixon Wingrove being selected to represent their country. A fantastic achievement for all involved this year and you should all be proud of your accomplishments. Thanks again to the club for giving me the opportunity to coach such a great bunch of blokes and also to the staff involved. Benny and Jeff, thanks for being there and each week. Hope we can go through this just one more time! Rick thanks for organising everyone over the year. Always a great help and a huge thank you to the unsung hero Carol Clapson for scoring for us the entire year. Phil Hemmer

Once our recruitment goal was ticked off, we turned our focus to our season goal – to qualify for the finals series. Unfortunately, the team just didn’t perform well enough consistently to book our place in the finals series but the improvement shown throughout the season is an absolute credit to all the players. Our first game of the season saw us face Penrith; a club returning to the competition this year after many years off. We scraped home with a 1 run win which was a great way to start the season and got us all excited for a season which promised lots of success. However, our major downfall in the first half of the season were lapses in concentration in key parts of the game each week which cost us many easy wins. This, coupled with many weeks of washouts, a "heat out" and a forfeit cost us games we definitely would

have won and put us in a position where we really needed to capitalise on every single game. After Christmas, the girls came back refreshed with a massive improvement in attitude and commitment which saw some extremely pleasing performances. A notable comeback for me was our walk off win against Blacktown in the final game of the regular season. Throughout the season, the team has grown positively as a unit and looks set to fire next year. If we can continue to bring the same commitment, attitude and never say die ethos, we will no doubt be a difficult team to beat. With all players returning next year and the club already planning Winter development programs we are in a much better position for the 2017/18 season. PCBL Summer
For this summer season the club again played in the Pacific Coast League. We fielded 4 teams in the competition with C2 winning the Grand Final in a very dramatic game. The season was very successful and the competition very well run. I hope everyone enjoyed the season and I look forward to seeing you next season. The main oddity in this season was the "heat out" where for the first time an entire round waas cancelled due to the extreme temperatures that were expected on the weekend.

Two of those losses were by 1 run and the other by 2 so we could have won each of them. Pitching and batting were strong all season and we finished level on the same wins and losses as North Sydney. They had a superior runs for and against to us in the whole competition but ours was better than theirs in head to head. They beat us 5-3 but we beat them 7-1 in the 2 games played. Under competition rules we finished minor premiers due to our superior head to head results. The first Semi Final at home against North Sydney was a wash out, which meant we went straight through to the Grand Final at home. North Sydney played Epping Eastwood Tigers in the Final and were beaten 15 - 2, which meant we played the Tigers in the Grand Final. Although the ground was wet from all the rain in March the grand final went ahead thanks to a big effort from the team to get the covers on and off the ground to protect it in the few days leading up to the Grand Final. We beat the Tigers 16 – 0. A very strong batting performance by all, with only 1 player out of 11 not getting a hit. Aaron Wright was voted MVP by the umpires for pitching a no hitter shut out with 2 walks as well as batting 4 from 4.

All teams in U/15 Div 2 and Div 3 started the season in the same competition and at the end it was split into the respective divisions. We were 3rd in the combined division and had even beaten one of the Div 2 teams so when the split was done we were 1st in Div 3. Unfortunately our main pitcher damaged himself before the semi final and we struggled in those games so it was a disappointing end to the season. Thanks to everyone for the efforts they put in at the games and at training and to Kylie and Markku for their efforts this season.

An interesting season where our position in the table (5th out of 7) probably does not tell the real story. Having made the U12 grand final the previous year the team stepped up to U14’s with the loss of several players. Taking their place were 5 young rookies who combined with 7 previous players to form the team. Our results varied with some uncharacteristic losses to easier teams balanced by very close games to the eventual top 4. Regardless all the team enjoyed themselves with old hands guiding the way for the newer players as the season progressed. With that season under the belt I think things look bright for next year with a number of future talents emerging. Well done overall team, keep up the hard work next year and more results will come your way.

The U10s had a fantastic season. The team was a mix of old and new players that jelled over the season to become not only a competitive team but a close group of friends. We started the season strong, losing only one game before the Christmas break. In the second half the competition tightened up with the team one game clear of Oakville with one game to play to decide the competition. The team won the final to finish minor premieres. The highlight of the season was the amazing improvement shown by all the players and their passion for the game. Congratulations to all the team!
