BELLWORK 8-17-15Consider objects in the
classroom, materials from home, and items used in your daily activities.
List five items that have something to do with Chemistry
MATTER AND CHANGEOBJECTIVES:
1. Define Chemistry
2. List examples of the branches of chemistry.
3. Compare and contrast basic, applied, and technological research development.
What is Chemistry
Chemistry is the scientific study of the composition, structure, and properties of matter and the changes that matter undergoes.
6 Branches of chemistry include:
Organic chemistry Biochemistry Inorganic chemistry Physical Chemistry Analytical Chemistry Theoretical Chemistry Approaches to the study of

Chemicals A chemical is any substance
that has a definite composition.
Common chemicals in your kitchen are sucrose (C12H22O11), sodium chloride (NaCl, salt), sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3, baking soda), and vanillin (C8H5O3, which gives vanilla its flavor). These chemicals always have the same composition which is represented by their formulas.
Types of Research Research can be
categorized as basic, applied, or related to technological development.
