ACADEMIC MONITORING
With a view to toning up the quality of education and helping the students in realizing their dream of taking creditable degree and landing up in plum jobs, the following innovative schemes have been launched from the academic year 2009-2010.
(a) MENTORING
Under this scheme, every staff member is put in charge of 20 students. He monitors his wards' academic performance and physical well-being and happy mental disposition required for intellectual pursuit. Wherever required, he counsels his wards so that their campus life is made fruitful. The mentor interacts with his wards' parents, the other stakeholders, so that his wards' education is made a co-operative effort of the staff and the parents.
FACILITIES
(b) CLASS COMMITTEES
Each Class Committee consists of a Coordinator, the teachers who handle class and student representatives. The committee meets periodically and analyses the reasons for student's poor performance and the other hurdles that impede their progress. It evolves remedial measures and comes up with suggestions for making the teaching learning process a joy and a reward. This offers the students a participatory role in the academic life of the college.
(c) CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT TEST (CAT)
As part of the endeavor to continuously check and improve the performance of the students daily, continuous assessment test is conducted every day during the first hour in the respective subjects.
CENTRAL COMPUTING FACILITY
The college has a Hi-speed Microwave internet facility. There
is 8 Mbps broadband internet connection through RF 24 1 for the use
of the students at the ratio of 1:1. The Latest Generation Servers like
IBM Xeon Server, HP 350 and 150 ML series are in the Computer
laboratories. Advanced Auto CAD is used in the Mechanical
laboratory. In the Electronics and Communication laboratory, VLSI
and MATLab facilities with Wi-Fi network are in use. There is state-
98
of-art English language laboratory where the students get an exposure to
British English and get trained in communicating in English. Action has
been initiated to provide a separate laboratory for software development
and another separate one for UNIX using Thin Client Technology. Soon
the college will go totally Wi-Fi.
ASSOCIATIONS To encourage the students in acquiring the requisite skills, every Department has an Association. These associations conduct seminars, symposia, inter-and intra-collegiate competitions. Our students have been bringing laurels to the college by participating in oratorical, histrionic and talent contests conducted in other institutions.
Teaching and coaching the students for the examinations are not enough. So the college has a Training and Placement Cell that facilitates the students in getting suitable jobs. The Cell organizes career development workshops, interaction with corporate gurus and 'Job Melas'. There is a Full-time Training and Placement Officer. The Cell arranges in-plant training, industrial visits, personality development programmes and special coaching for GRE, TOEFL, and GATE etc.
