come a major sponsor of the

Hill Chess Clubs.

Early bird entry to the 2012 Aus-
tralian Junior Chess Champion-
ships closes on November 1st.
These championships are Austra-
lia's most important junior chess
competitions and they are open to
any junior that plays chess. They
include long play championships,
lightning and problem
solving competitions. There are
separate Open and Girl's champi-
onships
for various age groups.
Being held in Melbourne makes it
an easy thing to do over the
school
holidays (14th to 22nd January
2012). The kids will have a lot of
fun
playing against people from all
around Australia and playing in this
competition is a great way to im-
prove their chess. For more details
and registration see the website:

A very good turn out for this interesting concept I seem to have qualified as the arbiter I mislead the players by saying the groups were separated by one acceleration point but this should have been 2 Due to the absence of a player in group 1 and in group 2 there is already been intermingling at the top of
group 2 Fludey being the victim. It was good to see the return of Isaac and Joshua Ng [and Ben of course] Isaac had a very good result on board 1 giving away 350 ratings points and holding FM Bill Jordan to a draw. Good result also for Bobby Yu on board 16. I think this is Bobby‟s first outing on Friday night.

It was not a great result for either the Box Hill/Darkhorse or the Canterbury Juniors combinations. Perhaps they should move away from Sundays. Too
many other things to do, or exams coming up, or outplayed In division 2 Box Hill 2 continues to do well and is at this point in time is 2 points clear of their nearest rivals No-
ble Park and Ballarat. There are how-ever quite a few unreported results or
unplayed games. In fact the whole competition is a mess. Division 1 has
so many results missing that it is im-possible to get a take on what is go-ing on. I believe club president Peter Tsai has been requested to take over
the organisation and reporting. That will smarten them up. Whatever hap-pened to division 3? Is there anybody out there.

Trevor reports We welcome Razi Khairi and Riana of the Mikael family all the way from Heidelberg as new start-ers in the Sunday coaching. Also welcome to Haitian Huang, Ian Choi (who has played on Fridays and his sister Ina Choi. The „starters‟ group is drastically smaller than term 3 and there is room for more for those who want to learn the
moves. Also there is room in the top elite group under Darryl Johansen. The other three classes are close to over-full (Rukman Vijayakumar, Laurence Matheson, and Bobby Cheng).

Transfer tournament report
Allen Yu reports
Only 4 teams competed today, but despite this it
was a really fun day. It was a triple round robin
where each team played 4 games against the op-
ponent every match, to ensure everyone played
against everyone. Time control was 3 0 and
bumped down to 2 0 in the last round.
Final standings (out of 36):
1st- Allen Yu and Michael Chan 27
2nd- Bobby Cheng and Cedric Antolis 22.5
3rd- Alec Yu and Daniel Tan 21.5
4th- Ari Dale and Finley Dale 1
The tournament was held on Saturday October
8 from 2.30 to 5.30 [!] I think there are more
tournaments planned Keep your eye on this
