Position Title: Bicycle NSW Events Assistant Reports to: Event Operation Manager Availability: 1-‐2 days per week + full-‐time event week (beginning 12 October) Dates: September 2015 – November 2015 Location: Sydney Olympic Park, NSW Status: Volunteer, Part-‐time Internship
Position Summary: The Events Assistant position is an 8-‐10 week volunteer, part-‐time internship. The role supports the Event Manager in developing and implementing key logistics for successful delivery of Spring Cycle 2015.
Position Overview: As Events Assistant, you will report directly to the Event Manager. You will be assisting with day-‐to-‐day operations that create and deliver dynamic, exciting events for Bicycle NSW. You will be involved in arranging all key logistics behind Spring Cycle (Sydney’s largest recreational cycling event that attracts more than 11,000 people). This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in events and get exposed to work in the not-‐for-‐profit sector. This position is ideal for candidates who have recently completed, or are actively studying, a course in Event Management and are looking to gain some real-‐world experience.
What you can expect from your position:
• Recruiting exhibitors, vendors, and mechanics while building relationships with existing partners. • Assisting in designing affiliated events for Spring Cycle. • Management of supplies, signage, and equipment for various sites at Spring Cycle. • Assisting with community engagement strategies and implementation. • Assisting in delivery of all operational and logistical needs within budget. • Working alongside traffic management to develop and refine routes and signage plans. • Assisting with developing risk management plans. • Exposure to multiple departments as part of a small team. • Working with groups of volunteers. • Assisting with event reporting and evaluation
What we expect from you:
• Events experience is preferable but by no means essential • Strong communication skills for both internal and external interactions • Computer competency is essential; experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe preferable • Confidence in your capacity to manage time and people professionally • A desire to learn, grow, and have some fun at the same time • A positive, adaptable disposition that works well as part of a small, close-‐knit team • A bit of creativity, character, and excitement to get involved!
Bicycle NSW has been the peak body for bicycle riding in NSW since 1976. A community not-‐for-‐profit member based organisation with over 20,000 members and supporters with the mission of 'creating a better environment for cycling'. Through advocacy, recreational cycling events and public education, Bicycle NSW aims to promote bike riding as a healthy, safe, enjoyable leisure and transport choice and is working closely with Federal and State government, businesses, Local Councils and local Bicycle User Groups to collaboratively improve the infrastructure and culture for bike riding.
