In this School Matters:
On Wednesday 24th of October 2018, students from Years 3-6
were given the job of investigating the mystery of the missing
treasure. We participated in all sorts of fun, hands-on activities
such as...
Investigating DNA
Searching for fingerprints
Revealing invisible ink under UV lights
Code cracking
And much, much more!
It was held in the hall and was run by forensics worker, Kathleen. With the clues we found we worked out
who the suspects were from every grade. Some students got to wear special forensics uniforms and one
student from each grade was chosen to wear a super cool police uniform and arrested the suspect.
Everybody enjoyed it very much and we hope the Forensics Workshop comes back to BEPS again.
Written by Hayley Van Der Meer and Lara Tomkins 3D
Highlights from 3D & 3B
Fingerprinting
Using UV lights to read the invisible ink
Cracking the code Using DNA to obtain clues
Testing "poisonous" substances Using the special microscope to examine
fingerprints on the computer Making predictions from the evidence
We thought it was cool how forensic
science can be used to solve crimes
The office continues to hold a large collection of lost property items
including a ring, Pandora bead, Hogwarts earrings, Garmin fitness tracker,
earphones, watches and more.
CHANGES TO SKOOLBAG APP
Due to changes to Apple policy, individual Skoolbag apps are no longer supported in the app store and
therefore will not receive critical updates. Users are also reporting issues
with attachments not downloading.
We have been advised to delete the individual ‘Blaxland East Public
School’ Skoolbag app and download the single Skoolbag app in the
App Store or Google Play store.
You can then add multiple schools within the single Skoolbag app if you
have children at more than one school, and easily switch between them
from within the app.
You can now submit absence notifications and change of details information via the Skoolbag
app.
Go to the Home menu within Skoolbag and choose eForms.
A reminder that when returning permission notes for school activities it is a legal
requirement to return a SEPARATE permission note for each child.
In addition, if returning multiple notes for more than one child/activity, there is no
need to put each note in separate envelope. We are able to process multiple
payments for multiple activities/children in the one transaction.
PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD/REN’S FULL NAME AND CLASS ON PERMISSION NOTES!
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We have started Term Four with a bang with all sorts of events here at BEPS.
Week One saw Kindergarten go on their excursion to Calmsley Hill Farm. While the weather had been
very wet, the day was dry and the children all had a wonderful time at the farm. I know that they have
been busy doing follow up activities in their classrooms.
This week has been particularly busy with Healthy Harold, Special Photo Day, Forensics Workshops and
our second Kinder Transition. Staff are already feeling tired! 3 – 6 students especially enjoyed the
Forensics Workshops.
Next Monday, Swim School starts for Year 2 and other selected students, so we are hoping for nice
warm mornings for the next two weeks. I am sure you will all have a fun time anyway. Healthy Harold
continues on Monday and Tuesday.
On Wednesday 7 November, at 7.00pm the Band and Senior Choir are holding a concert in the evening
for all parents, carers and family. Please come along and enjoy a night of music. I promise you will be
impressed!
On Thursday 8 November, the P & C are holding their final Disco for the year. It will be a Christmas-
themed outdoor disco for K-6 under the COLA. Come along, enjoy a fun time and help the P & C with
their fundraising efforts. Remember they are trying to raise enough funds to extend the School Hall so
we can all fit in!
Please remember to let us know if you are not returning to BEPS next year as we are now planning
classes for 2019. It makes our planning just a little bit easier.
Hope to see you around the school over the next few weeks,
Cheers
Kerry.

The P&C love this time of the year. We have the following dates for your diary:
Christmas Outdoor Disco (K-6) 4.30 – 6.00pm Thursday 8 November
Walk to school breakfast Wednesday 14 November
Canteen Christmas special day and Raffle Thursday 6 November
UNIFORM SHOP
Our uniform shop is now taking orders for the new uniform. Shirts, jumpers and hats with new logo are on
display in the school office.
CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS
We are in need of canteen volunteers for 2019. If you or someone from your
family can help out , please see Mrs Halavaka in the canteen. You will need a
working with children check and due to health and safety reasons, no children
can be in the canteen.
RECYCLE TUBS
A lovely mum organised for yellow recycle tubs to be placed around the playground
next to the garbage bins. The items placed in the tubs, are then cashed in at the
service station and money raised is then returned to our garden group to purchase
seedlings and soil.
AGM
The P&C would like to give notice of our AGM Wednesday 5 December 7.30pm.
GARDEN TOOLS
If you have any garden tools that you no longer need and would like to clear out
your garden shed, we would love some extra tools to help out with our growing
number of volunteers.
It's a fabulous time in the garden after all the beautiful
rain and sunshine! The snowpeas are still growing for
the students to crunch on, a delight our compost
champions enjoy! We have beautiful lettuce for the
canteen to use in the salad roll specials and lunch
orders as well as some zucchinis on their way!
We had our first Garden Friends Club working bee last
week and welcomed new and regular volunteers!
Thank you for all your hard work! Our garden wouldn't
exist without you! We meet again Tuesday 13th
November. While it's nothing fancy like Melbourne Cup
day, please bring a hat! Prize for the best hat.
Our garden
classes have
started again
and we can't
wait to grow,
harvest, and
explore with
teachers and
students. If
your class
would like to visit the garden with our volunteers Beth or Claire,
please ask the teachers to contact us.
