PASAIA LEKUMuseum of Basque Art on the Concha Bay
San Sebastian, Spain
Diploma project 2012 - EPFLProf. Patrick Mestelan
Prof. Roberto Gargiani
e city of San Sebastian, located along the Atlantic, is characterized by the surrounding nature: the various hills and the creek, around which the city developed, the Concha Bay. ese natural elements separate and protect the city from the ocean. A promenade along the coast is the cord linking the spaces opening onto the rough sea and those that watch the calm waters of the bay.
e project - an exhibition space developed as a result the lack of museal infrastructures in the city - established itself at the limit of these waters, marking the threshold between urban and nature. On this threshold, there is already the most representative work of the city, the sculpture of Ed-uardo Chillida’s Peines del Viento. e project becomes a doorway onto these works binding to the promenade. e ground oor takes part of the public space, allowing walk-ers to come o the promenade by the water to discover a new route into the museum.
e exhibition is dedicated to landscape observations. is museum contains, between its protective wall and the rock of the Igueldo hill, the artistic regional legacy represent-ing the Basque landscapes. e works are organized in the exhibition according to the views re ected in each space. An alternative discovery of art is made possible through the confrontation of di erent art movements, di erent sensi-tivities, and the confrontation with the external reality.

e way to watch, to frame, the way the light enters in each space through the frameworks, and thus induces a function to the space.Light and frames of view: two themes to be worked out in this project.
In the lobby - the public space of the hotel - framing is free, open, in a panoramic format. New York’s light enters un ltered into the space, in its natural form.
In the room – the most private space - framing is indi-vidual, solitary, controlled, in portrait format. e light penetrates into the space and is di used, controlled by a wall that lights up the room.
In the spa - Evian’s representative space - the view is la-custrine, hazy, in a navy format, but above all unrelated to the city. anks to a glass system on the roof and to re ective coating materials in the spa, the overhead light is intensi ed in the area of the lake.
Evian at the center, surrounded by rooms, the all sup-ported by a table, a structure reminiscent of the moun-tain slopes of the Lake Geneva region, under which is the free space of the lobby. A public oor, with a res-taurant and the business center, completes the system.
e slots connect the di erent spaces, by horizontal and vertical views, with sounds spreading from space to spa-ce and with the air in ltrating and passing through the slots.

ROOM SERVICEHotel in Oporto, Portugal
Master I 2010 - EPFLProf. Eduardo Souto de Moura
Prof. Camilo Rebelo
A hotel, a place for a rest, a temporary “home”. Crow-ded and deserted with the seasons. e aim of the pro-ject was to transform the complex into a small town: rooms are transformed into houses, halls are transfor-med into streets and squares, dotted by common spa-ces, activity places, animating the entire hotel.
Located along the Atlantic, by the Parque de la Ciuda-dela, the project marks the end of the city of Oporto. It works as a wall that encloses and protects a portion of the park, creating outdoor spaces protected from ocean winds. e building is bent according to the di erent possible views, towards the sea, the harbor village of Matosinhos, the park or the city of Oporto. A white concrete wall.
e rooms, private areas of the project, are the stan-dard elements in the resort hotels, leaving the servi-ce areas away from natural light and the space of the main room - a space of night – closer to it. Here, the typologies of the rooms have been worked out, so that bring the bathrooms and workspaces closer to win-dows, to views and light, and leaving the bed in the twilight.

Master I 2010 - EPFLProf. Pierre Cagna
Prof. omas Keller
e building is designed as an architectural promenade. e tour starts on the oor, ascending through a slope to the projection room. e exhibition space is the promenade itself. A visit from the ground to the sky, from reception to the projection room. Some architectural codes are reversed:
From light to darkness, from smaller to larger space, from lightest to heaviest.
e building is started in an outdoor area, and turns slowly into a covered area. Barriers between outside and inside are blurred. e use of composite material led up to a free form and curved : a tube of about 132 m. e tube diameter grows gently to overcome the di erence between the nee-ded surface for the projection room and and for the entry. is variation is also used to solve the question of the dark-ness and clarity: by putting same size windows on a frame, with horizontal axes that follow the growth of the diameter, the glass surface is getting smaller in the end of the tube. e variation of glass ber in the composite material adds the possibility to get transparancy, translucence and opacity in the di erent spaces of the gallery.

CCHE Architecture Design SA2010
Construction start May 2011
Around the metro line 2 (m2) of Lausanne, the last pastures have given way to new housing projects. Despite reductions imposed by the application of private law and an average density requested by the municipality, the future housings of La Feuillère appear as a major project for the neighbor-hood.
The implementation distributes homes in five plots of 25x25 meters through a strongly present meadow in the geographical context. The project architecture boasts a simple expression, purified, both on plan and facades. All outdoor areas are treated in loggias. This introverted space protects from vis-à-vis, a result of the close proximity of the buildings.
The materiality of the envelope in Eternit ® let to express the mass with a single flake coating for roofs and facades. The holes of the windows have chamfers to provide more light. This deformation of the façade takes part of its com-position: from a simple biased monolith, developed details are discovered subsequently in the framing and millwork.

LITTORAL PARCO ce building, Etoy, Switzerland
CCHE Architecture Design SA2009
Between the villages of Buchillon and Etoy is a booming industrial area: the Littoral Parc. Stuck between federal railways to the south and Geneva-Lausanne motorway to the north, the parcel required a longitudinal project.
e elongate element is deformed, folded, creating a pocket on the south side, the future outdoor space. e tops of the oors are maintained by a backbone of nu-clei and a stud system allowing a wide variety of o ce layouts. ese trays, wrapped by a glass facade, are pro-tected from the south by long sunshades.

EXPERIMENTAL GREEN SPACEStemporäre Stadt an besonderen Orten
Duisburg, Germany
Bachelor V, 2008 - RWTHProf. Kunibert Wachten
Prof. Michael Kloos
This project was conducted as part of an Ideas Competition between various architecture schools involved in the Ruhr-gebiet 2010, -European Capital of Culture 2010.
The proposed project was to let the “Emscher Park” immerses itself in the city of Duisburg. This new green space brings closer the downtown areas and the port, now upgraded. The competition also called for a temporary object, which would point out and could be a trigger for the project.
The chosen place for this object is the gate of the old town, on the Schwanentor Bridge. The trigger is the vegetation, starting this green space at the bridge. By covering it com-pletely with artificial turf, the status of this door would radically change. To highlight this change, both day and night the grass is dotted with small flowers lamps. The space is illuminated, in the same way several industries are lighted up in the region of the Ruhr.
